About Our Company:
Founded in 2005, Safety Power is a leading Canadian cleantech company. We are a leading supplier to the data centre industry. Our equipment removes nitrogen oxides, particulates and other harmful emissions most commonly for diesel engines used for backup power; end users of our systems include Amazon, Google and Microsoft. To support our extensive growth, we have just opened a new production facility in Michigan, and we are looking to hire a key member of our field service team that will service and maintain our installed equipment at clients sites. Job Overview The Field Service Maintenance & Repair Technician will perform on-site repair and maintenance on our installed equipment throughout the U.S. This role is responsible for travelling to customer sites to repair/maintain our installed equipment (welding, cladding and basic to intermediate electrical systems), ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with Company specifications. Responsibilities WELDING Perform on-site welding repairs on structural steel, plate, stainless steel, and miscellaneous metal components. Repair cracked, damaged, or defective welds using MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core welding processes. Grind, fit, fabricate, and modify metal components as required. Inspect weld quality and ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and safety standards. Operate welding and fabrication equipment safely and effectively.
ALMUMINUM CLADDING & EXTERIOR REPAIRS
Install, repair, and replace aluminum cladding panels, flashings, trim, and architectural metal systems. Troubleshoot water infiltration, panel damage, and fastening issues. Measure, cut, and fabricate aluminum components on site. Work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms when required. Ensure finished appearance meets customer and company quality expectations.
ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS
Perform troubleshooting and repairs on basic industrial and commercial electrical systems. Repair or replace wiring, switches, motors, lighting, disconnects, sensors, and control components.• Assist with electrical installations and equipment maintenance. Read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings. Follow lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safety regulations.
MISCELLANEOUS
Maintain company tools, equipment. Complete service reports, inspection forms, and repair documentation in accordance with specifications. Coordinate with supervisors, project managers, and customers on repair schedules and site conditions. Maintain safe work practices and comply with all company safety policies and procedures. Assist with other maintenance, fabrication, or construction tasks as required. Adhere to all quality protocols and safety policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications Welding certificate from reputable welding association, or 5 years' related work experience.• Familiar with a variety of welding concepts, practices, and procedures under AWS (American Welding Society) or any international standards. Minimum 2 years experience in field service repair focussing on large industrial equipment within a production/manufacturing, construction or industrial labour environment. Ability to understand welding symbols and diagrams, read blueprints, and/or other printed instructional material in the welding of products or parts. Knowledge of aluminum cladding and electrical repair work. Electrical license or electrical apprenticeship experience required. Comfortable operating required equipment/tools in a safe manner with the ability to readily determine the types needed to complete a task. Able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably throughout the full shift. Proficient in operating a forklift, crane, scissor/boom lift. Strong attention to detail. Ability to read and write in English. Basic math skills. Effective verbal and listening communications skills. Must be physical able to lift and handle heavy objects, including continuous standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing for 8-hour shift. Experience using hand tools, power tools, welders, grinders, and testing equipment. Working knowledge of industrial and commercial construction practices. Valid driver's license with clean driving record. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Comfortable working at heights and in varying weather conditions. Flexible to perform on-call work as required. Job Demands & Working Conditions Frequent ground/flight travel throughout U.S, driving long distances. Overnight stay when required. Working remotely at customer sites. Working extended shifts when required. Working outdoors in variable weather conditions (sun, rain, wind, snow, extreme heat or hold). Clothing provided by Company. Working at height (boom/scissor lift or ladder) with safety harnesses or fall protection equipment. Maintaining balance, awareness, and coordination in high-risk areas. Operating machinery or tools while elevated. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Exposure to hot surfaces (exhaust components, motors, engines, load banks). Required to wear PPE (fall protection equipment, heavy safety harness with 2 lanyards, hearing protection, company assigned uniform, safety glasses, respirator, safety boots, carbon monoxide monitor, hard hat with chin strap). Exposure to loud noise (large generators, machinery, power tools, traffic). Flashing lights/strobe lights (construction sites, control panels, machinery and forklifts). Troubleshooting low voltage control panels, with proximity to medium and high voltage. Vibration from handling hand tools, machinery and engines. Chemical exposure (handling cleaning agents, urea, exhaust fumes). Slip trips and falls (uneven terrain, wet or icy surfaces). Limited walking surface on top of generator enclosures. Day shift with occasional overtime and emergency service calls as required.
