Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description This role is responsible for performing complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs on plant machinery and equipment in an industrial environment. The Maintenance Technician troubleshoots and maintains a wide range of systems, ensures safe and efficient operation of equipment, and delivers high-quality workmanship while adhering to established safety protocols and documentation standards. Responsibilities Perform mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and air-conditioning repairs on plant equipment and machinery to ensure reliable operation. Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including regulators, controls, cylinders, and related components. Read and interpret machine drawings, electrical schematics, charts, and blueprints to diagnose issues and complete installations or repairs. Install and repair electrical systems ranging from routine to complex applications, including wiring and equipment connections. Perform welding and torch cutting as required for repairs, fabrication, and modification of equipment and structures. Install castable materials in hearths, furnace doors, fluid beds, and arches to support foundry and furnace operations. Thread, bend, solder, and fit gas pipe to close tolerances to support safe and efficient gas distribution systems. Assist with rigging and moving heavy equipment and machinery using appropriate tools and safe lifting practices. Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, including labor records, work orders, and equipment histories. Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe, ensuring tools and equipment are stored properly. Complete required safety, hazardous material, forklift, and lockout/tagout training and apply this training in daily work. Handle hazardous waste materials and perform wastewater neutralization procedures in compliance with regulations and company policies. Calibrate and certify temperature measuring devices to ensure accurate process control. Perform general facilities maintenance tasks, including repairing wiring, replacing light bulbs, and installing new equipment such as boilers or other machinery. Use hand tools, power tools, carpentry tools, masonry tools, lathes, saws, and electrical meters to perform maintenance and repair tasks. Wire conduit and work with pipe, concrete, plaster, sheet rock, and related materials as needed for maintenance projects. Operate fork trucks, front loaders, carts, dollies, and commercial vehicles as required to support maintenance activities. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate work, report issues, and support production needs. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervision to support overall plant operations and maintenance. Essential Skills Minimum two-year degree in Electrical Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred, or a minimum of two years of industrial maintenance experience or equivalent on-the-job training. HVAC certification required. Ability to obtain EPA Level II Refrigerant Recovery Certification within 12 months of hire. Valid Missouri driver's license. Ability to read and understand electrical blueprints, machine drawings, and technical schematics. Hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, facilities maintenance, and electrical work. Experience with welding, electrical troubleshooting, hydraulics, pneumatics, and HVAC systems preferred. Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing industrial equipment and machinery in a multi-craft role. Strong knowledge and practical experience with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints accurately. Solid understanding of safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe handling of hazardous materials. Ability to handle hazardous waste materials and perform wastewater neutralization procedures. Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision in repairs and installations. Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced industrial setting. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team. Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual tasks, work in varying temperatures, and handle heavy tools and equipment. Ability to complete required safety, hazardous material, forklift, and lockout/tagout training. Capability to maintain accurate maintenance documentation, labor records, and work orders. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as an Industrial Maintenance Technician in a multi-craft role is highly desirable. Comfort working in an industrial and foundry environment with exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, and industrial equipment. Experience wiring conduit and working with pipe, concrete, plaster, sheet rock, and related building materials. Familiarity with flux and other materials used in industrial and foundry processes. Proficiency using mechanic hand tools, carpentry tools, measuring tools, and masonry tools. Experience operating lathes, drill presses, table saws, band saws, and similar shop equipment. Proficiency using electrical meters, testing equipment, and air-conditioning gauges and tools. Experience using welding torches and cutting equipment for fabrication and repair. Ability to safely operate fork trucks, front loaders, carts, dollies, and commercial vehicles. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with maintenance, operations, and safety teams. Work Environment This role is based in an industrial plant environment where part of the shop operates as a foundry. Approximately 30% of the shop is not climate controlled, and you will work in both hot and cold temperatures, including very hot conditions in the foundry area. The environment includes dust, noise, heavy industrial equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals, with both indoor and outdoor working conditions. You will regularly use mechanic hand tools, carpentry tools, measuring tools, masonry tools, welding torches, cutting equipment, electrical meters, and testing instruments. Equipment such as air-conditioning gauges, drill presses, saws, lathes, carts, dollies, commercial vehicles, fork trucks, and front loader equipment will be part of daily operations. The position follows a second-shift schedule from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and you will be expected to follow all safety procedures, use appropriate personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work area in a busy industrial setting.
