Job Description

Cleveland County Water (CCW) is currently seeking qualified applicants for the full-time, on-site position of Maintenance Technician I, II, or III, dependent upon qualifications. This role performs skilled trades work installing, repairing, and maintaining water distribution lines and operating heavy equipment.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Install, maintain, and repair water lines, services, meters, meter boxes, valves, water taps, etc.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair pump stations and elevated storage tanks
  • Assist with locating water lines
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on various pieces of equipment
  • Locate and mark valves
  • Operate dump trucks, backhoe, concrete saw, jackhammer, and other equipment
  • Perform general building and grounds maintenance work
  • Repair landscaping, patch streets, and make concrete repairs
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Some knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance, and repair of utility lines
  • General knowledge of maintenance and manual tasks involved in installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of utility lines
  • General knowledge in the use of common hand and power tools
  • Ability to operate construction equipment
  • Ability to perform manual and semiskilled labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and the general public
Education, Certification, and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Some knowledge and experience or thorough knowledge and experience (dependent upon level hired) in the maintenance, repair, and/or construction of water lines, heavy equipment, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License is required. Special Requirements
Utility Maintenance Technician III:
Possession of NC Grade A Distribution Certification upon hire
    Utility Maintenance Technician II:
    Possession of a NC Grade B Distribution Certification upon hire
      Utility Maintenance Technician I:

Cleveland County Water is a Sanitary District located in Cleveland County, NC. CCW serves a public water supply to a population of 60,000 and has over 22,000 active accounts.       From $18.37 per hour Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
