Maintenance Mechanic Job Description The Maintenance Mechanic maintains and repairs production equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This role diagnoses mechanical issues, performs repairs and preventive maintenance, and supports a clean, safe, and compliant industrial work environment. Responsibilities Keep production equipment in proper working order to support continuous operations. Diagnose mechanical and operational issues on production machinery using critical thinking and mechanical troubleshooting skills. Repair broken machines promptly and safely to allow production to resume. Fabricate simple parts or components as needed to return equipment to service. Perform regular preventive maintenance on production equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times. Report any unsafe work conditions or concerns to the Shift Supervisor immediately. Repair leaking tanks, lines, and baghouse components to prevent spills and additional environmental or safety risks. Apply proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures to ensure equipment is safely de-energized before maintenance or repair. Operate forklifts and other industrial equipment safely when required for maintenance activities. Follow all industrial safety reporting requirements and established safety procedures. Work collaboratively with operations and other maintenance personnel to prioritize and complete work orders efficiently. Adhere to DOT safety and compliance standards as applicable to the facility and operations. Support safe handling and maintenance practices in areas involving hazardous materials in line with RCRA and HazCom knowledge. Participate in required safety, compliance, and DHS-related training and apply this knowledge in daily work. Essential Skills Proven experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial or production machinery. Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify root causes of equipment failures. Hands-on experience performing preventive maintenance on production equipment. Ability to safely perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures. Proficiency using hand tools and basic industrial tools for mechanical repair and fabrication. Experience working in a manufacturing or mineral processing environment. Ability to operate a forklift in an industrial setting. Basic electrical exposure or familiarity sufficient to support equipment repair activities. Capability to work safely around industrial equipment, including tanks, lines, and baghouse systems. Ability to lift and handle heavy components and work in physically demanding conditions for extended periods. Strong attention to safety, including identifying and reporting unsafe conditions promptly. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Forklift experience or certification, or the ability to obtain it as required. DOT safety and compliance training or familiarity with related standards. Knowledge of RCRA and HazCom requirements related to hazardous materials and communication. Exposure to
DPSP / DHS
training and associated safety and security practices. Experience with industrial safety reporting and adherence to established safety programs. Comfort working in a mineral processing or similar heavy industrial environment. Ability to read and follow safety procedures, maintenance instructions, and work orders accurately. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position follows a D shift schedule: Wednesday from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., with 4 hours of mandatory overtime built into the schedule. The work environment is a heavy industrial plant that is not temperature controlled, with exposure to both hot and cold conditions throughout the year. Portions of the plant operate outdoors, so the role includes occasional outdoor work. You must be comfortable wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times and working in an environment with industrial noise and typical trade-related hazards. The position requires frequent standing, walking, crouching, and bending for extended periods, as well as manual dexterity for handling tools and equipment. You may be required to lift and move heavy items, with exposure to physical demands and conditions common to manufacturing and mineral processing operations. Safety procedures and equipment are always required, and adherence to established safety protocols is a core expectation of the role.
