Job Title:
Maintenance Mechanic Job Description The Maintenance Mechanic sets up, repairs, rebuilds, and installs production equipment to ensure continuous, safe, and efficient operation of all products. This role serves as the primary technical leader on the shift, responsible for planned maintenance, troubleshooting, and minimizing downtime due to equipment failures. The Maintenance Mechanic also supports operator training to help identify potential equipment issues and strengthen preventive maintenance practices. Responsibilities Set up, repair, rebuild, and install production equipment to ensure continuous production and minimize downtime. Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning production equipment, including fillers, conveyors, drives, coolers, palletizing systems, boxing components, bucket elevators, ovens, and other liquid packaging machinery. Perform planned and preventive maintenance on high-speed production and beverage filling/packaging equipment. Analyze mechanical and operational problems, identify root causes, and develop and execute corrective action plans. Make running adjustments and corrective repairs to maintain maximum production output, safety, and product quality. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical drives, pneumatic systems, pumps, valves, and conveyors. Use machining and fabrication skills to repair, modify, or create parts and components as needed. Troubleshoot electrical systems including 480V power, three-phase motors, and PLC-controlled equipment. Perform PLC troubleshooting to support efficient operation and rapid recovery from equipment faults. Use machine shop equipment, hand tools, power tools, and test equipment safely and effectively. Read and interpret mechanical diagrams and equipment documentation to guide repair and maintenance activities. Assist in training equipment operators to recognize and report potential equipment malfunctions and failures. Support and promote preventive maintenance practices, including TPM or Lean Manufacturing principles where applicable. Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to prioritize work and support production schedules. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with GMP and safety standards. Essential Skills At least 2 years of experience as a line mechanic in a high-speed production environment, preferably in food manufacturing or bottling. Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills for liquid packaging machinery, including fillers, bucket elevators, ovens, palletizers, and related equipment. Proficiency in performing preventive maintenance and repair on beverage filling and packaging equipment. Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical drives, pumps, valves, conveyors, and related mechanical components. Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic controls, systems, and components. Ability to troubleshoot 480V electrical systems, three-phase motors, and PLC-controlled equipment. Experience with PLC troubleshooting to support equipment operation and fault recovery. Machining and fabrication skills to repair or create parts and components. Experience in pipe fitting, welding, and machining operations. Ability to read and interpret mechanical diagrams and technical documentation. Competent in using machine shop equipment, hand tools, power tools, and test equipment. Working knowledge of computers for maintenance-related tasks and documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment is preferred. Familiarity with TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) or Lean Manufacturing practices is a plus. Strong analytical skills to diagnose mechanical and operational problems and propose effective solutions. Ability to work independently as the primary technical resource on shift while collaborating effectively with production and operations teams. Work Environment This role follows a 2-2-3 schedule on B and D shifts, working from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., which provides extended off-days within the rotation. The position is based in a GMP-regulated food and beverage production facility, where cleanliness and safety standards are strictly maintained. On the production floor, no jewelry, makeup, or long nails are allowed to ensure product safety and compliance with GMP requirements. Attire is generally casual, provided it meets safety and GMP guidelines. You will work around high-speed production lines, liquid packaging equipment, conveyors, and automated systems, using a range of tools, test equipment, and computer-based systems to perform maintenance and troubleshooting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dayton, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
