Summary of Responsibilities The Instrumentation & Controls Maintenance Technician III serves as a subject matter expert in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of complex instrumentation and control systems. This advanced role independently performs preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and performance. The technician develops maintenance procedures, provides technical guidance, and resolves complex equipment issues. Responsibilities include collaborating with engineers, planners, and vendors to minimize downtime and support operational continuity. This position ensures compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices while driving continuous improvement. Education and Experience Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. 2+ years of progressive experience in instrumentation and controls maintenance or a related field. Proven hands-on experience in performing preventive, corrective, predictive, and complex maintenance tasks on instrumentation and control systems and equipment. Experience in developing and updating maintenance procedures, work instructions, and calibration schedules. In-depth knowledge of instrumentation and control principles, systems, components, and equipment. Mastery of P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, technical manuals, and applicable industry standards. Proficiency in using specialized tools, test equipment, and advanced troubleshooting techniques. Expertise in performing root cause analysis, failure mode analysis, and data interpretation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's degree or technical certification in instrumentation technology, industrial electronics, or a related field.ISA CCST

Instrumentation certification, or equivalent recognized credential. Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills for identifying opportunities for process improvements. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to resolve intricate instrumentation and control issues. Ability to evaluate and implement solutions for complex maintenance challenges. Ability to manage and coordinate complex maintenance projects and activities. Skills in collaborating with cross-functional teams, engineers, and external vendors. Knowledge of project management principles, resource planning, and scheduling.Job Details Work Location :

Travel Required :

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc. Primary Functions Advanced-level position responsible for independently executing and technically supporting complex instrumentation and controls maintenance activities Performs preventative, corrective, and troubleshooting maintenance on a variety of instrumentation and control equipment and systems Interprets P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, technical manuals, and work orders to diagnose and repair issues Calibrates, functionally tests, and troubleshoots process instruments and control loops using approved procedures and calibrated M&TE Diagnoses and resolves faults involving field devices, 4-20 mA and discrete signals, control valves, PLC/DCS interfaces, and fire detection systems Assists in creating task instructions, updating maintenance procedures, and developing work plans Documents work assignments, performance history, maintenance logs, and repair reports accurately and in real-time Prepares timely and detailed trouble reports for maintenance problems and errors Collaborates with planners, supervisors, and cross-functional teams to ensure efficient work execution Provides training, guidance, and mentorship to junior technicians on maintenance tasks and procedures Adheres to all safety requirements, policies, best practices, and regulatory compliance related to instrumentation and controls maintenance Participates in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for process enhancements Assists in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance schedules and programs Supports installation, loop checks, functional testing, configuration control, and commissioning of new or modified I&C equipment Performs inspections, calibrations, loop checks, channel functional tests, and as-found/as-left documentation for I&C components Ensures proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental regulations Maintains a clean and organized work area, ensuring proper care and storage of tools and equipment May assist in coordinating and overseeing work performed by contractors or vendors related to instrumentation and controls maintenance Participates in emergency response and troubleshooting activities as required Exhibits a strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence in all maintenance activities Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
