The Lift Mechanic will maintain, repair, and assist in the operation of the chairlifts by completing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and preparing lifts for daily operation in compliance with allANSI B77.1
standards. This job description is intended to be a broad description of duties. - Ensure proper operation of chairlifts and personnel by completing preventative maintenance of APU's, electric motors and line gear following manufacturers' maintenance manuals.
- Remove defective parts by dismantling devices, using come alongs, cranes, heavy equipment, rigging, hand and power tools; examining and diagnosing cause of failure and correcting the condition.
- Perform all summer maintenance work including line work, grip work, and general maintenance.
- Maintain equipment, parts and supplies inventory and conserve resources by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipate equipment, parts and supplies and using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Prepares operational and maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information.
- Executing scheduled annual, monthly, weekly and daily maintenance on chairlift and mechanical equipment.
- Responding to and determining cause of lift problems with public on board.
- Perform all tasks associated with inspecting, repairing, and maintaining lift equipment including:
- Tower machinery and sheaves.
- Drive equipment, such as gear boxes, drive belts, electric motors, diesel engines, bearings.
- Hydraulic and mechanical tension and braking systems. Carriers, grips, clips, and detachable grips.
- Bullwheels, terminals, towers, haul ropes, control systems, batteries
- Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble. Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
- Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Repair or replace defective parts. Install special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricate and clean parts. Start devices to test their performance.
- Carries out all company procedures for mechanical failures, lift evacuation, adverse weather conditions or any other occurrence which may adversely affect the safety of the passengers on lift equipment.
- Prepare chairlifts daily for operational use.
- Complete required departmental maintenance log sheets and record keeping.
- Keeps current on all ropeway safety requirements as outlined in the latest edition of the
ANSI B77
manual.- Maintains tools, vehicles and equipment in a clean and good working condition.
- Reliable attendance on all scheduled workdays.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Knowledge:
- 1 year of prior experience with lift maintenance and/or lift operations preferred.
- Education requirement of High School Diploma, preferred.
- Must possess valid driver's license.
- Must be able to climb chairlift towers wearing a fall protection harness, while carrying tools, to troubleshoot / repair equipment at heights up to 65 feet while chairlift is running.
- Must be able to operate a snowmobile, with public on mountain safely and respond to stopped lift issues quickly and efficiently in all types of snow conditions including deep powder.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings.
- Knowledge of lift safety codes and standards - ANSI B-77 Standard, preferred.
- Familiar with lift operation and controls, preferred.
- Possession of personal tools and understanding of tool use safety, preferred.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Work Environment:
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. TSVI is located in a high altitude alpine environment. Position may require travel on uneven, snow packed, or icy terrain and may be exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions.Physical Demands of Position Include:
20% of the workday is spent indoors: 80% of the work day is spent outdoors in constantly changing weather conditions, including snow, extreme cold and wet in winter and heat, thunder and lightning storms in summer. 60% of the day is spent walking, 35% of the day is spent standing and 5% is spent sitting. Frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 100 pounds and pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 250 pounds (buddy lifts are required to maintain personal safety). Constantly using and monitoring controls that operate lifts and using heavy tools. Constantly climbing heights up to 65 feet, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering and feeling. Constantly engage in normal conversation. Constantly listening to machinery sounds and smelling for gases and odors, near and far acuity, depth perception, color and field of vision. 60% of the time noise levels reach 75 - 110 decibels. Constant exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards, high exposed work site, burns and radiant energy. Frequent exposure to fumes, odors and gases.Background Check:
