The Facilities Department of Nassau Community College (NCC) is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic I to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks or act as an assistant in performing a variety of skilled maintenance and repair tasks throughout the campus. Under general supervision, the position requires the limited use of judgment and skill in performing a variety of routine maintenance activities, and the work is reviewed for accuracy and completeness. In addition, the Maintenance Mechanic I will: Open blocked drains, repair faucets, cut and thread pipe, and assist plumber or steam fitter, as required. Perform general maintenance and repair work on electrical equipment, and assist electrician, as required. Mix and pour cement, repair plaster, and assist mason, as required. Lay linoleum and repair floors, screens and windows, and assist carpenter, as required. Paint buildings, rooms and other areas, and assist painters, as required. Make minor repairs and adjustments to laundry equipment, and oil and clean machinery. Perform a variety of routine and emergency maintenance and repair tasks. Perform general maintenance and repair work on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, and assist refrigeration mechanic, as required. Maintain, repair, install, and replace locks and related equipment, and assist locksmith, as required. Cut and weld a variety of materials such as iron fences, construction equipment, heating and plumbing systems, and assist welder, as required. Perform general maintenance and repair work on HVAC equipment, piping, and control systems. Repair and adjust various equipment used in general recreation activities such as athletic field equipment and other related equipment. Perform semi-skilled installation, maintenance and/or repair of heating and/or cooling systems.Requirements:
The Maintenance Mechanic I should have: Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair work. Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment used in a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks. Ability to work quickly and efficiently in emergency situations. Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Minimum qualifications include two (2) years of satisfactory experience in either general building maintenance and repair activities or one of the specialties listed below: Carpenter Electrician General Maintenance Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Locksmith Mason Painter Plumber Refrigeration Steam FitterWelder Additional Information:
The Maintenance Mechanic I position is a Grade 7, non-competitive Civil Service title. The starting salary is $34,961 per year. After one (1) year, the salary will increase to $50,682. Benefits include NYS retirement plan, health, dental, optical insurance, vacation, sick, and personal leave. Candidates must be a current resident of Nassau County for at least one (1) year.
