Fabricate and modify parts to maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. The position is critical in support of production needs through installing, repairing, replacing and maintaining a wide variety of electro-mechanical equipment, fixtures and systems. Work includes performing basic to advance machine shop fabrication, advanced troubleshooting on a wide variety of printing and finishing equipment, preventative maintenance, special projects, maintaining adequate parts and supplies and general building maintenance support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Read and understand mechanical drawings in support of day-to-day responsibilities. Machine parts to specifications from drawings, supplied samples or guidance from engineering staff using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, or grinders. Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers. Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations. Troubleshoots mechanical equipment and systems requiring the isolation of the malfunction, disassembly of equipment and repair/replacement of parts and components. Install repaired parts into equipment, or install new equipment. Reviews work requests for mechanical repairs and maintenance, determines nature of problem, and recommends appropriate solution. Prioritizes the repair of equipment to minimize unscheduled downtime. May be called upon to perform work outside of normal schedule shift. Conducts preventive maintenance inspections and performs required preventive maintenance as assigned. Routinely observe equipment operation to ensure equipment is operated to manufacturer specifications and generally accepted practices. Act professionally as the Ashton Potter facility maintenance liaison with equipment vendors and contractors. Perform tasks safely and in accordance with Ashton Potter health &safety, attendance and other company policies and procedures. Inform supervision of unsafe conditions or practices. Keep work area clean and organized. Work independently and use time effectively.
