St. Teresa of Avila and St. Anthony of Padua are partner Catholic parishes dedicated to serving our faith communities. We are seeking a reliable, skilled, and proactive individual to ensure our sacred spaces, parish halls, and grounds at both locations are clean, safe, and well-maintained for our parishioners and visitors.
Job Summary:
The Custodian plays a vital role in the stewardship of both parish facilities. We are looking for a "jack-of-all-trades" who takes pride in keeping the facilities sparkling clean but also possesses the hands-on skills necessary to handle groundskeeping and moderate building repairs across multiple sites. You will work independently to manage daily upkeep and respond to seasonal needs, ensuring consistency of standards at both the St. Teresa (Sheffield Village) and St. Anthony (Lorain) locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilities Maintenance & Repair (Both Locations): Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry/General Groundskeeping (Both Locations): Lawn Care, Snow Removal Janitorial Services (Both Locations): Routine cleaning of the restrooms, parish hall, offices, and church Event Support (Both Locations): Support church and parish functions, including community dinners, fundraisers, and social gatherings.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements:
Previous experience in custodial work, building maintenance, or a related trade Demonstrated ability to perform basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs safely. Experience operating common groundskeeping equipment (lawnmowers, weed whackers, snow blowers). Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively. Reliability and a strong work ethic are essential. A respectful demeanor supportive of the mission and environment of a Catholic Church. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required as this position involves travel between locations. Subject to background checks (Diocesan policy requires successful completion of a comprehensive criminal background check; applicants should have no criminal record or convictions for job consideration). Qualified candidates will be required to take a hands-on electrical/mechanical skills test prior to the in-person interview.
Physical Demands:
This position is physically demanding. Candidates must be able to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) regularly. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and reach frequently. Must be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain).
