Job Title:
Facilities Technician / HVAC Technician Job Description This role provides hands-on facilities and HVAC maintenance across a multi-building campus, ensuring all systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. The technician supports commercial and industrial HVAC equipment and control systems, performs general building maintenance, and contributes to a collaborative team environment while helping to maintain a clean, manufacturing and clean room facility. Responsibilities Monitor the facility to ensure it remains safe, secure, and well-maintained across a campus of approximately 10 buildings. Troubleshoot power systems, HVAC systems, control systems, and mechanical systems to diagnose and resolve issues promptly. Service and maintain commercial and industrial HVAC equipment, including pumps, boilers, chillers, controls, and large-capacity units in the 450-1350 ton range. Perform general and preventive maintenance on building systems, including basic carpentry and plumbing tasks, to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Manage and coordinate vendor activities as needed to support maintenance and repair work. Replace lighting system bulbs and ballasts as needed to maintain proper illumination and safety throughout the facility. Move office furniture, machinery, equipment, and other materials as requested to support facility operations and layout changes. Participate in an on-call rotation (approximately a 5-week rotation, typically starting after the first few months) to respond to after-hours facility and HVAC issues. Collaborate closely with a team of technicians and other staff, contributing to a cooperative and supportive work environment. Potentially oversee and guide a small team of up to five workers if management experience is present, helping to coordinate daily tasks and priorities. Follow all safety, security, and compliance procedures, including successful completion of standard screening requirements. Essential Skills Extensive commercial and industrial HVAC maintenance experience, including hands-on work with pumps, boilers, chillers, and control systems. Strong electrical knowledge and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical and HVAC control systems. Experience working with building management systems (BMS) or building automation systems in a commercial or industrial environment. Proven ability to troubleshoot power, HVAC, and mechanical systems effectively and safely. Basic knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance. Interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with colleagues and vendors. Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills when diagnosing and resolving maintenance issues. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to complete tasks and preventive maintenance schedules. High school diploma or GED required. Approximately 10 years of experience in HVAC maintenance and related facilities work. Ability to participate in an on-call rotation after an initial acclimation period. Additional Skills & Qualifications EPA Universal certification is highly preferred. LME (Limited Maintenance Electrician) or LEB (Limited Energy Electrician) license is a plus. Experience managing or leading a small team, with the ability to oversee approximately five workers, is considered an advantage.
