POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible, in conjunction with other facilities personnel, for maintaining the physical structure and maintaining equipment used inside and outside the building. The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic commits to the mission of the Catholic education in the Mercy tradition.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform light mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, kitchen, and carpentry repairs. (Candidate must supply own common hand tools; specialty tools not required.)
  • Perform maintenance on the inside of the school including remodeling, painting, light fixtures
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance on equipment and fixtures
  • Perform regular maintenance outside of the building including cleaning roof/gutters and sidewalk snow removal
  • Move furniture, supplies and equipment
  • Manage cleaning service contract including scheduling for special events and holiday/summer work schedule
  • Manage building supply inventory
  • On call for after-hours emergency service (this is after 3 months, in conjunction with someone else)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Facilities Supervisor/Director of Finance
  • Responsible for the student shuttle service
  • Maintain all annual flowers and holiday decorations
  • Assist Advancement, Front Office, Athletics and Admissions in school events
  • Special projects at the request of the President
  • Maintain sports field, field house & surrounding sports area and trash containers
  • Be available for short notice shuttle driving in the morning and after school
  • Open building daily when in attendance
  • Assist in fueling, cleaning and general upkeep of school vehicles and trailers
  • Contact and work with outside contractors ___________________________________________________________________
COMPETENCIES
Strong attention to detail and maintaining accuracy; highly organized with strong time management skills. ___________________________________________________________________
SPECIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current driver's license; ability to drive pickup truck and large passenger van
  • Five years' experience in a related field
  • Ability to troubleshoot, solve and repair
  • Working knowledge of all building trades including but not limited to plumbing, painting, electrical, carpentry and masonry; HVAC a plus but not required
  • Knowledge of computerized building control systems (BCS); experience with Johnson Controls Metasys a plus but not required
  • Ability to use A-frame ladders, extension ladders and Genie Hi Lift to 30 feet
  • Ability to lift / carry 50 pounds and move heavier weights with dollies and hand trucks
  • Ability to use computers including email, search engines and Microsoft Word
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse faculty and staff
  • Candidate must pass all background checks and child abuse clearances prior to employment ___________________________________________________________________
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
May include:
  • Operating light equipment or tools
  • Work on ladders, frequent walking, bending and stooping, squatting, reaching above and at shoulder length
  • Kneeling, balancing above standing, sitting, lifting objects weighing up to 50lbs or more
  • Occasional pushing/pulling, twisting at waist
  • Good balance is required
  • Subject to extremes of temperature while working inside and outside the school
