Job Description
Position Summary Incumbents of this position perform a wide variety of maintenance tasks and repairs to facilities utilizing knowledge and skill in at least one of the major crafts such as carpentry, masonry, sign making, plumbing, hearing, electrical, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (H.V.A.C.) or pipefitter; and utilizing experience below the journeyman level in several of the other crafts. Duties and Responsibilities Assists with the daily activities of the District Facilities Unit including related stockroom management activities and utilizing various software applications. Monitors activities of work crews involved in repair work for compliance with sound engineering principles and practices and contractual standards. Receives specific assignments and obtains materials and special tools from stock as required. Uses all standard and special tools required of primary craft and all standard tools required of other crafts as necessary.
When performing work:
a. Reads and interprets written instructions, diagrams and maintenance manuals. b. Investigates building equipment or structures to identify causes of breakdown or malfunction and repair. c. Plans and organizes work to be performed and verifies that all necessary materials and parts are available. d. Constructs, assembles, repairs and/or adjusts building maintenance equipment. e. Instructs and directs less skilled workers who have been assigned to assist in major projects. f. Reports breakdowns, deterioration or malfunction of building equipment as noted during inspections and may recommend remedial action and/or the use of new materials and equipment. Performs diversified building and grounds maintenance work below the journeyman level when not engaged in work of primary craft. Prepares reports on materials, equipment and time spent on various maintenance projects. Performs skilled fabrication and repairs to motors, pumps, grates, floors and all other equipment with minimal supervision. Operates snow removal equipment such as snow blowers and shovels, operates snow plowing and sanding equipment if qualified and licensed; participates in the random DOT Drug & Alcohol testing pool when applicable. Available 24/7 to respond to emergencies outside of standard business hours. Performs related duties as required. Preferred Qualifications Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver's license (CDL), Class B Class 1D Hoisting License- Forklift Qualifications Required at Hire Knowledge of the standard practice, methods, and techniques of welding.

- minimum Journeyman Level issued by the Massachusetts Office of Public Safety and Inspections; IV. A Commonwealth of Massachusetts Licensed Oil Burner Technician
- minimum Journeyman Level issued by the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services; V. A Commonwealth of Massachusetts Licensed Sprinkler Fitter
- minimum Journeyman Level issued by the Massachusetts Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters; VI. A Commonwealth of Massachusetts Licensed Electrician
- minimum Journeyman Level issued by the Massachusetts Board of State Examiners of Electricians; VII. A Commonwealth of Massachusetts Licensed Plumber
