2 SUMMARY Under general supervision, the Water Maintenance Technician repairs the District's water lines including pipes, valves, hydrants, services lines, and water meters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs manual labor work to repair water lines, water meters, pipes, valves, hydrants, and other related equipment. Routinely operates heavy equipment including mini excavators, skid steers, back hoes, dump trucks, front end loaders, and track hoes. Transports heavy equipment, tools, and materials to and from job sites. Repairs water taps. Probes, prods, or digs to identify underground utilities. Communicates location with crew. Sets up cones and flags traffic to ensure traffic flow and safety of crew. Ensures tools and parts are stocked on truck and prepped before arriving to job site. Assists with work orders as needed. Cleans and maintains assigned vehicles and equipment. Employee is required to be on after hour call which includes, but is not limited to, nights, weekends, and holidays. Interacts with customers, contractors, and the general public as needed. Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of utility maintenance work. Familiar with common hand tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction. Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions required on a construction site. Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally. Ability to communicate effectively with work crews and others as needed. Ability to read and comprehend safety manuals, signs, maps, etc. Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions and terrain.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). One year of related experience and/or training with heavy equipment operation and water maintenance is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS A
valid driver's license is required. Employee must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License and a D Water Distribution License.
COMPENSATION
The employee shall be compensated on an hourly work week with normal hours being 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday although after hour work may be required from time to time to fulfill the duties of the job. Employee will rotate an on call schedule. Employee will be paid bi-weekly (26 times per year). Pay is based on skills, education, certification, experience, etc.
