Non-exempt Job purpose The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency. This role plays a key part in the short- and annual turnaround process and ensures that all machinery complies with safety and operational standards. Additionally, this role supports plant operations using multiple disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, electronic and instrumentation troubleshooting, maintenance and repair on a variety of equipment. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations as well as supports facilities maintenance efforts. Duties and responsibilities The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following: Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on production machinery, including pumps, valves, and other ancillary systems to ensure optimal performance. Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and implement solutions to minimize downtime and production interruptions. This may include Mechanical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Electrical and Instrumentation. Participate in the short- and annual turnaround process, contributing to scheduled maintenance and reliability assessments to optimize long-term equipment performance. Follow preventative maintenance schedules and ensure that all equipment is serviced regularly to reduce the likelihood of breakdowns. Actively participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Pre- start-up Safety Reviews (PSSR). Identify and replace faulty parts and maintain an inventory of essential components to ensure quick repairs and minimal downtime. Adhere to all safety protocols, industry standards and environmental regulations, including but not limited to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hazardous material handling, to maintain a safe working environment. Regularly complete and stay up to date on required safety and operational training. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance to ensure compliance and operational transparency. Work closely with operators, electricians, and production teams to identify equipment issues early and coordinate repairs without disrupting production. Maintain workspace and plant cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness ensuring a well-kept and efficient work environment. Adhere to company policies, procedures, and uphold the organization's values in all tasks and interactions. Support Engineering with installation of basic to intermediate control and instrumentation systems Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain mechanical systems, electronic controls, instrumentation, and standard power systems using manuals, blueprints, schematics, precision measuring instruments and hand/power tools. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. This is a versatile position.
Skills and Qualifications Skills include:
Strong understanding of Electrical and mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment in a chemical manufacturing environment preferred. Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently. Knowledge of maintenance procedures and the ability to follow preventative maintenance schedules. Strong commitment to safety standards with the ability to follow safety protocols and regulations in a chemical manufacturing environment. Ability to perform detailed inspections. Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting, working in confined spaces, and operating in hazardous environments. Proficiency in SAP S/4Hana, DMC, and Microsoft Office is a plus. Familiarity with Class 1, Division 2 Locations and related standards is a plus Strong written and verbal communication skills are important.
Qualifications include:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational or technical training in Industrial maintenance is preferred. Completion of an Industrial maintenance apprenticeship is a plus. 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably chemical manufacturing. Relevant certifications in Industrial maintenance or safety are a plus. Working conditions This position requires performing duties in an active chemical plant with exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, high noise, vibrations, confined spaces, and elevated work areas, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols, PPE, rotating shifts, overtime, and potential on-call duties. This position may require minimal travel. Physical requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting. Tasks may involve confined spaces, elevated areas, and working under equipment. Direct reports This role does not supervise direct reports.
