Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician supports safe and reliable operation of production and packaging equipment by troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. This role works with computers, robots, and CMMS software to complete preventive and corrective maintenance, minimize downtime, and assist production teams in a fast-paced distribution environment. Responsibilities Operate, repair, and perform general maintenance on equipment within the assigned area to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. Complete all assigned preventive maintenance tasks accurately and on schedule, documenting work in the CMMS system. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on production and packaging equipment. Respond promptly to machine breakdowns and complete repairs in a timely and safe manner to support production goals. Assist and support production teams with equipment-related needs, including setup, adjustments, and basic operator guidance. Train and help production personnel in proper equipment use and basic maintenance practices as needed. Use computers and robotics interfaces to monitor equipment status and perform maintenance-related tasks. Work with 480v electrical systems safely and effectively, using appropriate tools and procedures. Perform limited PLC troubleshooting as needed, without programming responsibilities. Use Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as Maintenance Connections or similar CMMS software, to record maintenance activities and maintain accurate equipment history. Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and facility guidelines while performing maintenance tasks. Communicate clearly with supervisors, peers, and production staff about equipment status, repair timelines, and maintenance needs. Essential Skills Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, electronics, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Hands-on experience performing maintenance, repair, and general mechanics work in an industrial or similar environment. Demonstrated ability to work safely with 480v electrical systems. Ability to work with computers, including basic navigation of maintenance and equipment interfaces. Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software for logging work orders and maintenance activities. Ability to work with robotics or automated equipment in a production or distribution setting. Proficiency with basic Microsoft tools, including Excel and Word. High School Diploma or GED. Additional Skills & Qualifications Technical degree or trade certification from a technical college or trade school (such as TCAT or similar) is preferred. Previous experience with Maintenance Connections or similar CMMS platforms. Previous robotics experience in a production, packaging, or distribution environment. Basic understanding of PLC systems with the ability to perform limited troubleshooting (no programming required). Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose root causes of equipment failures. Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with production and maintenance teams. Ability to work independently during assigned shifts and manage multiple tasks and priorities. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a large packaging and distribution facility with approximately 600 employees, increasing to around 1,000 during the busy October-December peak season. The facility is expansive and not temperature controlled, so it can become hot during summer months. The position follows an evening shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 PM to 2:30 AM. The environment is fast-paced and equipment-intensive, with extensive use of automation, robotics, and computer-based systems to support packaging and distribution operations. Standard industrial attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are expected to ensure safety while working around machinery and electrical systems. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of La Vergne, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
