Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician performs efficient and effective maintenance activities to maximize the safe production of quality products, minimize cost, and protect the environment. This role focuses on maintaining and repairing all manufacturing equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and automation systems, while troubleshooting breakdowns and ensuring high equipment utilization in an industrial manufacturing setting. Responsibilities Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all manufacturing equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient production. Rebuild large gearboxes and perform precision alignment of pumps and other rotating equipment. Troubleshoot, fabricate, install, repair, calibrate, check, and adjust equipment, controls, and facility components to maintain the highest level of equipment utilization. Diagnose and resolve issues with low voltage electrical systems, including 480V and up to 4160V. Unwire and rewire equipment for maintenance activities, ensuring proper reconnection and safe operation. Perform basic instrument troubleshooting and support work with instrumentation technicians. Work with and maintain automation equipment, including Fanuc robots, 6-axis robots, PLC-controlled systems, and thermoforming equipment. Use electrical and mechanical diagnostic tools, including multimeters, to identify and resolve faults in motors, controls, and power circuits. Interpret and use electrical schematics, blueprints, and ladder logic diagrams to troubleshoot and repair equipment. Support and maintain mechanical systems such as centrifugal pumps, vacuum blowers, screw presses, blend tanks, agitators, servo motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, refiners, and conveyors. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance tasks in accordance with established procedures and standards. Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS/CCMS) to document work orders, record repairs, and track maintenance activities. Collaborate with a multi-craft maintenance team to resolve complex equipment issues and support continuous improvement. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all safety and environmental procedures while working in the plant. Participate in training and development activities to expand technical skills and support ongoing reliability improvements. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years of experience in the electrical and mechanical field in an industrial maintenance environment. Proven experience as a true industrial maintenance technician with multi-craft capabilities (mechanical, electrical, and basic instrumentation). Hands-on experience with equipment breakdown, troubleshooting, and repair in a manufacturing plant. Ability to rebuild large gearboxes and perform alignment of pumps and other rotary equipment. Strong electrical troubleshooting skills with low voltage systems, including 480V and up to 4160V. Ability to unwire and rewire equipment safely for maintenance activities. Experience troubleshooting and working with PLC-controlled systems and ladder logic. Proficiency in using a multimeter and other diagnostic tools for electrical and mechanical troubleshooting. Experience with Fanuc robots and 6-axis robotic systems in an industrial setting. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams. Experience in industrial maintenance, including motors, PLC control, electrical maintenance, and mechanical repair. Certifications in relevant maintenance or safety standards. Proficiency in using a computerized maintenance management system (CCMS) to manage and document maintenance work. Ability to work effectively with instrumentation technicians and support basic instrument troubleshooting. Strong commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to GMP standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a GMP-compliant industrial manufacturing environment. Experience in maintaining thermoforming equipment, centrifugal pumps, vacuum blowers, screw presses, blend tanks, agitators, servo motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, refiners, and conveyors. Familiarity with industrial robots, including Fanuc and other 6-axis robotic systems. Comfort working in a multi-craft maintenance role that spans mechanical, electrical, and basic controls. Ability to collaborate within a skilled maintenance team and contribute to knowledge sharing and training. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex equipment issues under time constraints. Work Environment This role is based in an industrial manufacturing plant that operates under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and maintains a clean, organized environment. The facility is divided into two primary sections: a Process Flow Raw Materials area, where material enters the plant and goes through shredding, a series of tanks, refining processes, and chemical baths before being repulped; and a Thermoforming (production) side, where the refined material is transported through piping and formed into finished products. The equipment you will work with includes Fanuc and 6-axis robots, PLC-controlled systems, centrifugal pumps, vacuum blowers, thermoforming equipment, screw presses, blend tanks, agitators, servo motors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, refiners, and a limited number of conveyors. The position follows a 2-2-3 schedule with a standard shift of 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., after an initial training period on days for 1-2 months (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday). Overtime opportunities typically range from 8 to 36 hours per month, and a shift differential is offered for night work. The environment is industrial and process-driven, with a strong focus on safety, cleanliness, and reliable equipment operation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vonore, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $34.00/hr.
