SUMMARY:

The General Maintenance Attendant supports the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the healthcare facility by performing routine maintenance, minor repairs, and general upkeep of buildings, equipment, and grounds. This role also serves as a backup to custodial staff, ensuring cleanliness and infection control in patient and staff areas. The position is critical to maintaining a welcoming, compliant, and functional environment for patients, staff, and visitors—especially in a primary care and HIV outpatient setting.

None Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Must display and set the example in customer service, displaying courtesy, active listening in person, email or via telephone, providing timely service and follow-through to all clientele aiming at building and fostering business relationships. Provide excellent customer service at all times to all clients/staff, display empathy, active listening and follow through throughout the patient experience. Acts a courier to transport mail, documents, furniture, to all three clinics Maintenance Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance tasks including painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC filter changes and other facilities' maintenance such as power wash walls and corridors, clean windows, floor care and other general maintenance assignments. Will assist in safety and infection control procedures such as cleaning chemical spills, disinfecting clinical or highly infectious areas, handling red trash and replacement of hazardous and sharp containers according to OSHA standards and safety and infection control policies and procedures. Conduct daily inspections of facility systems and report any safety hazards or repair needs. Respond promptly to maintenance service requests from clinical and administrative staff. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of mechanical rooms, storage areas, and exterior grounds. Assist with setup and breakdown of furniture and equipment for meetings, events, or patient services. Monitor and replenish facility supplies such as light bulbs, filters, and cleaning materials. Assists Facilities Manager to coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs or inspections (e.g., fire safety, elevators, pest control). Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs. Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, HIPAA, and local building codes. Support emergency preparedness drills and facility safety checks. Ensure adherence and compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain client confidentiality according to VAC policies and programmatic requirements. Attend VAC departmental, organizational meetings and mandatory training. Must follow all agency rules and regulations including but not limited to Employee Handbook, safety rules and programmatic requirements. m. Other duties as assigned and required. Custodial Backup Duties Clean and disinfect restrooms, exam rooms, waiting areas, and staff offices as needed. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust common areas and hallways. Empty trash and biohazard containers following infection control protocols. Replenish restroom and cleaning supplies. Assist with deep cleaning projects and seasonal sanitation efforts. Follow enhanced infection control measures in accordance with clinic policy. Minimum Qualifications•

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED required. Minimum 2 years of experience in general maintenance or custodial work, preferably in a healthcare or nonprofit setting. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to pass background check and health screening (including TB test and immunizations, as required).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

Active State of Texas Class "C" Driver's License. Must maintain all certifications, licenses and/or registrations consistent with Westbrook Clinic policy and Texas State Law. Maintain required state mandated auto liability insurance at all times.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions:

Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs with or without assistance. Manual dexterity and precision required for tool use and equipment handling. Vision and hearing corrected to normal range. Work is performed primarily indoors in a healthcare setting with occasional outdoor tasks. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and temperature fluctuations. May be exposed to infectious materials in emergency or custodial backup situations.
