Position Summary Chinquapin Preparatory School is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to support the care, repair, and upkeep of our campus buildings, grounds, vehicles, and faculty residences. This position works under the supervision of the Director of Facilities and supports the daily operational needs of a small, mission-driven boarding school community. The ideal candidate is a dependable, hands-on problem solver with broad maintenance experience and a willingness to jump in where needed. Because Chinquapin is a small school, this role requires flexibility, good judgment, strong follow-through, and a genuine commitment to keeping the campus safe, functional, and welcoming for students, families, faculty, and staff. Primary Responsibilities Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Responding to maintenance work orders for campus buildings, classrooms, offices, dormitories, faculty residences, and outdoor spaces. Performing general repairs, including basic troubleshooting related to plumbing, electrical issues, drywall, painting, flooring, doors, windows, fixtures, appliances, and furniture. Supporting routine maintenance of school vehicles, small engines, tools, and equipment. Assisting with landscaping, groundskeeping, field care, and outdoor campus upkeep. Helping prepare campus spaces for school events, family events, student activities, and seasonal needs. Supporting the Director of Facilities with ongoing projects and urgent maintenance needs. Maintaining safe work practices and ensuring tools, equipment, and work areas are used responsibly. Communicating clearly with the Director of Facilities about project status, supply needs, safety concerns, and work that may require outside contractors. Working respectfully and appropriately around students, families, faculty, staff, and campus residents. Assisting with occasional evening or weekend emergency maintenance needs when necessary. Keeping on top of maintenance tickets and group communication systems (e.g. google chat & text). Required Qualifications At least five years of experience in maintenance, construction, handyman/handyperson work, facilities support, or a related field. Demonstrated ability to complete high-quality hands-on repair and maintenance work. Valid Texas driver's license. Ability to pass required background checks. Ability to work safely, independently, and under the direction of the Director of Facilities. Strong follow-through and willingness to complete assigned tasks in a timely and responsible manner. Ability to support landscaping, field maintenance, and outdoor campus projects. Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, kneel, work outdoors, and perform physically active maintenance tasks. Professional, respectful communication with students, families, faculty, and staff. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a school, nonprofit, residential, or campus setting. Experience with basic vehicle maintenance, small engines, landscaping equipment, or school facilities. Familiarity with Google Workspace or willingness to learn basic digital systems for communication and work orders. CPR/AED or safety-related training. Willingness to drive school vehicles, including non-CDL vehicles, as needed. Interest in living on campus, if housing is available. Compensation and Benefits Annual salary up to $35,000, commensurate with experience. On-campus housing may be available. Meals in the dining hall when school is in session.
