Position Summary The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance throughout Sonterra Municipal Utility District parks, recreational facilities, trails, green spaces, aquatic facilities, buildings, and other District-owned property. This position requires a hands-on individual with general maintenance and repair experience who can identify problems, complete routine repairs, maintain District facilities and equipment, and assist with larger maintenance projects as needed. Experience with swimming pool or aquatic facility maintenance is preferred but not required. The District will provide opportunities for training in aquatic facility operations and water chemistry.

Maintenance Lead, Parks & Recreation staff, District administration, contractors, and vendors. Essential Duties & Responsibilities General Facility & Property Maintenance

• Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs at District buildings, parks, recreational facilities, trails, green spaces, and aquatic facilities.
• Performs general maintenance including minor plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, masonry, irrigation repair, and other routine facility repairs within the employee's training and ability.
• Maintains and repairs District equipment, furniture, fixtures, gates, fencing, signage, vehicles, trailers, and small-engine equipment.
• Identifies maintenance deficiencies, safety hazards, and property concerns; reports or corrects issues as appropriate and assists with preventative maintenance programs.
• Performs grounds and property maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, vegetation management, pressure washing, graffiti removal, housekeeping, and trash and debris removal.
• Maintains district trails, parks, and green spaces by identifying and addressing weed growth, erosion, washouts, trip hazards, low-hanging limbs, and other conditions that may affect safety or property condition.
• Performs ongoing cleanup and upkeep of District properties, right-of-way, streets, curbsides, drainage areas, vacant lots, parks, and trails. Aquatic Facility Maintenance
• Assists with routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and seasonal opening and closing of swimming pools, splash pools/pads, pump rooms, and related aquatic equipment.
• Assists with maintaining and troubleshooting pumps, filters, chemical feed systems, plumbing valves, and other aquatic operating systems.
• Performs routine pool cleaning and filter maintenance, including skimming, vacuuming, brushing and related upkeep.
• Assists with monitoring water chemistry and maintaining appropriate chemical levels after required training; identifies and reports leaks, equipment malfunctions, water-quality concerns, and other facility issues. Operations & Administrative Responsibilities
• Responds promptly to maintenance issues and emergencies and coordinates repairs to minimize disruption to programs and facility operations.
• Maintain accurate records and inspections, preventative maintenance, repairs, equipment supplies, facility conditions, and operational needs.
• Assists with inventory management and procurement, including obtaining pricing and estimates and ordering maintenance materials, parts, equipment, and supplies as directed.
• Assists contractors and vendors with access to District facilities and provides information regarding maintenance needs and site conditions as directed.
• Follows applicable District procedures and federal, state, and local safety requirements and assists with maintenance and safety reporting. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Working knowledge of general building, facility, grounds, and equipment maintenance practices with basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, irrigation, landscaping, and mechanical systems.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, landscaping equipment, and other maintenance equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot routine maintenance and mechanical problems and recognize and address unsafe conditions appropriately.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records, and complete required documentation.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, District staff, contractors, vendors, and the public.
• Ability to prioritize assignments, manage multiple tasks, and work independently with limited supervision. Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of experience in facility maintenance, building maintenance, parks maintenance, mechanical maintenance, construction, skilled trades, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of general maintenance tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and repairs.
• Valid driver's license and ability to maintain an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain required District certifications and training within established timeframes. Preferred Qualifications
• Experience maintaining municipal, commercial, recreational, or public, or other institutional facilities, including parks, trails, athletic facilities, and related grounds.
• Experience with general building and equipment maintenance including plumbing, electrical, irrigation, HVAC, carpentry, mechanical systems, or small-engine repair.
• Ability to obtain Texas Pesticide and Herbicide Applicator's License .
• Previous swimming pool or aquatic facility maintenance experience, including familiarity with pumps, filtration systems, chemical feed systems, and water chemistry is preferred.
• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification.

CPO/AFO certification is not required at hire. If assigned aquatic maintenance duties, the employee may be required to obtain an applicable certification within a designated period after hire. Equipment, Machines, Tools & Work Aids The position may regularly use hand and power tools, landscaping equipment, maintenance equipment, ladders, pressure washers, small-engine equipment, pool maintenance equipment, chemical testing equipment, computers/mobile devices, and District vehicles. Work Environment Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. The employee may be exposed to extreme heat and cold, rain, wind, dust, noise, landscaping conditions, mechanical equipment, and chemicals used for facility and aquatic maintenance. The position may require work in pump rooms, mechanical areas, outdoor recreational facilities, drainage areas, trails, and other District properties. Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and use hands and arms to operate tools and equipment. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and assist with moving or handling heavier equipment and materials. The position may also require pushing, pulling, or dragging materials weighing up to approximately 75 pounds. The employee must able to safely operate and navigate District vehicles, aquatic equipment, and specialized maintenance machinery. Expected Hours of Work Full-time position, 40 hours per week. The position may require early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and adjusted schedules based on District operations, special events, emergencies, weather conditions, or facility needs. Participation in an on-call rotation or response to after-hours maintenance emergencies may be required. Travel Travel is primarily local during the workday between District facilities and properties. Occasional travel may be required for training, certification courses, equipment pickup, meetings, or other District business.
