Performs work related to the installation of traffic signs; the installation, repair, and maintenance of electronically controlled traffic control devices; and the delineation of pavement markings in accordance with standards and regulations. Responds to emergency situations regarding downed traffic stop and yield signs and electronic traffic control devices.SUPERIVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives supervision for the Traffic Supervisor.EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES
: Essential and other important duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Fabricate, install and maintain traffic signage. Install and maintain pavement markings and permanent barricades. Prepare and maintain a variety of records, data and/or other related information. Install and repair traffic signals, school zone flashers and city-owned and maintained street lighting. Participate in training signal crew members on work procedures and practices. Respond to emergency and on-call situations. Trim trees that obstruct traffic control signage. Assist with the gathering of traffic information for city asset management program. Drive to various locations and operate large equipment in the course and scope of daily job duties. Complete work orders and work progress reports. Observe safety rules and regulations. Learn and stay updated on traffic-related laws, ordinances and rules, city and departmental policies and procedures and oral and written instructions. Perform other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of :
Principles associated with traffic signs, signals and markings and thermoplastic applicator. Basic electronic principles. Safe work methods, especially when working in areas of high voltage, water, gas and other dangerous utilities. Advanced maintenance principles. Texas Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Applicable laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures and regulations. Ability to : Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to this role. Perform basic mathematical calculations. Perform manual labor. Perform advanced maintenance and repair activities. Apply judgment, discretion and resourcefulness in interpreting and applying guidelines. Utilize applicable tools and equipment of the trade. Operate computer and related software applications. Communicate effectively with a variety of individuals, including supervisors, co-workers and the public. Operate boom trucks, bucket trucks and other specialized equipment used to install signs, traffic signals and associated equipment. Learn new equipment, software and methods of performing duties. Work after business hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and/or on-call, as needed. Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: making observations reading and writing inspecting assigned projects operating assigned equipment communicating with others. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of: making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: frequent climbing, balancing, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, seeing, hearing and manual dexterity lifting various heavy materials performing various weather conditions operating assigned equipment. Effectively deal with personal danger which may include exposure to: electrical hazards, shock, vibration, fumes and airborne particles confined or high workplaces hazards associated with working in and near traffic.EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.A typical way would be:
Experience :
One (1) year of increasingly responsible signs or traffic signal installation experience.Training :
Must have completed the twelfth grade and possess a high school diploma or have a GED.License or Certificate :
