Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician provides maintenance support across two production facilities and plays a key role in keeping all plant mechanical systems and production equipment operating safely and efficiently. This position focuses on preventive maintenance, repairs, installations, and troubleshooting on a wide range of equipment, including fillers, processing lines, packaging systems, and robotics and automation equipment. The role requires a strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to diagnose and resolve issues quickly in a fast-paced, regulated food manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance on plant mechanical systems and production equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on equipment such as fillers, processing machinery, packaging lines, conveyors, and robotics and automation equipment. Work on and repair pumps, motors, drives, valves, conveyors, and belts, ensuring all components operate safely and efficiently. Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics to identify faults and implement effective repairs. Install, adjust, and align mechanical and electrical components on production and processing equipment as needed. Support production by responding promptly to equipment breakdowns and completing repairs in a timely manner to meet strict production deadlines. Apply Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and follow food safety protocols during all maintenance activities to prevent contamination and ensure compliance with regulations. Collaborate with other maintenance personnel and production staff to identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to equipment reliability and performance. Document maintenance work performed, including preventive maintenance tasks, repairs, and parts used, in accordance with plant procedures. Support continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting enhancements to maintenance processes, equipment setups, and safety practices. Provide maintenance coverage for multiple locations as required, ensuring consistent support across facilities. Essential Skills Experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs on manufacturing equipment in an industrial or production environment. Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience working with pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors, belts, motors, pumps, and valves. Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems, including 480-volt, 3-phase power. Experience working with and troubleshooting conveyors, belts, mixers, and filling equipment. Familiarity with robotics and automation equipment in a manufacturing setting. Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics for troubleshooting and repair. Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their components. Understanding and application of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a regulated environment. Experience with PLC-based equipment and control systems. Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Ability to work independently on third shift and respond quickly to equipment issues. Comfort working in a warm to hot production environment while maintaining safety and quality standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in maintenance roles such as maintenance electrician, electro-mechanical technician, utility technician (including ammonia systems), or maintenance mechanic. Background in mechanical maintenance from the military, including experience working on equipment such as airplanes, trucks, or similar machinery. Experience in a food manufacturing or GMP-regulated facility. Familiarity with food safety protocols and contamination prevention practices. Ability to work across multiple locations within the same geographic area. Strong communication skills to coordinate with production and maintenance teams. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills for documenting maintenance activities. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role primarily supports a large food manufacturing facility with multiple locations in the Milwaukee area that operates under strict GMP and food safety protocols to prevent product contamination. The third shift schedule runs from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, supporting continuous production and strict deadlines. The environment is very warm and can be hot at times, but remains clean and well-organized to meet regulatory standards. Maintenance team members work around fillers, processing lines, packaging equipment, conveyors, mixers, and robotics and automation systems, as well as 480-volt, 3-phase electrical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and PLC-controlled machinery. Dress requirements include wearing clean pants without frays or tears, with uniforms provided after onboarding. Hair nets are required, and jewelry, piercings, and nail polish are not permitted to maintain food safety standards. The company provides an allowance for steel-toed boots or composite safety shoes, reinforcing its focus on workplace safety and compliance.
