This role involves traveling to active job sites to assist with building out telecommunications infrastructure, including rack and closet buildouts, structured cabling installation, and fiber optic termination. The technician performs fiber and copper terminations, OTDR and Fluke testing, and basic troubleshooting to ensure network systems meet TIA/EIA performance standards. This position is hands-on and requires working on ladders, in ceilings, and across large construction environments while supporting new construction data center deployments and high-capacity colocation facilities. The Fiber Technician I works closely with project teams to maintain installation quality, accurate documentation, and efficient project completion. Job Responsibilities Install, route, dress, and label fiber and copper cabling systems in commercial and data center environments Terminate fiber connectors including LC, SC, ST, FC, and MPO/MTP for single-mode and multi-mode fiber systems Assist with fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cabling including loose tube and tight buffered cables Perform fiber testing using OTDR platforms and Fluke DTX/DSX testers to certify and validate link performance Troubleshoot signal loss, attenuation, and connectivity issues using diagnostic equipment Install and build out telecommunications closets including racks, patch panels, backboards, grounding systems, and hardware Perform copper cable terminations including CAT3 and CAT5 connections using patch panels, 110 blocks, and 66 blocks Install structured cabling infrastructure including cable trays, ladder racks, J-hooks, and pathway supports Calculate acceptable fiber loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards Complete accurate field documentation including test results, labeling, timesheets, and work orders Maintain clean and organized work areas while following all safety protocols and jobsite requirements Travel to multiple project sites to support fiber installation and infrastructure deployment Job Requirements High school diploma or GED required 0-2 years of experience installing structured cabling, fiber optics, or low-voltage systems in commercial environments Hands-on experience with fiber termination including
LC, SC, ST, FC, MPO/MTP
connectors for SMF and MMF systems Familiarity with OTDR testing and Fluke DTX/DSX certification tools for fiber and copper link validation Understanding of structured cabling installation practices including routing, labeling, and cable management Ability to assist with telecom closet buildouts including rack installation, patch panels, and grounding systems Basic knowledge of copper termination includingCAT3/CAT5
cabling and 110/66 block connections Ability to troubleshoot cabling faults including opens, shorts, pair reversals, and fiber signal loss Familiarity with TIA/EIA standards and fiber loss budget concepts preferred Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and installation documentation Willingness to travel regularly to project sites and support field-based installations Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate project documentation Education High school diploma or GED required OSHA 10 certification preferred Work Experience Experience working in commercial structured cabling environments preferred Experience supporting new construction data center or colocation facility deployments preferred Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance 401(k) Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.) Typical start time is approximately 7:00 AM depending on job site requirements Expected work schedule ranges from 40 to 60 hours per week with frequent extended schedules including six 10-hour days Daily per diem of $50 provided for eligible travel assignments Work is performed primarily within new construction data centers, colocation facilities, and hyperscale environments Current project backlog includes large-scale deployments supporting hyperscale and high-density infrastructure environments with projects scheduled 6 to 12 months in advance Travel to active job sites is required to support fiber installation and infrastructure buildouts across multiple locations 26-03668Pay:
