JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Competency Requirements Knowledge of Data cabling, low voltage electrical, analog, video, and audio cabling; Patch panels, including dress-in, terminations, labeling, and testing; Current and new cabling technology and trends; Using hand and power tools; Troubleshooting cabling problems Applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations. Ability to Communicate effectively with District staff, both technical and non-technical; Demonstrate independent, creative thinking and analytical skills; Adapt technology to district needs; Troubleshoot and resolve technology problems; Prioritize work projects and work within time constraints and deadlines with minimal supervision; Maintain office, school and individual confidentiality; Demonstrate effective interpersonal interaction and verbal and written communication skills; Develop and recommend cost effective system improvements; Work independently and with team members; Operate a motor vehicle; Adhere to all safety regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Install, troubleshoot, and maintain low-voltage systems, including video and data cabling, door access cnotrol systems, analog and digital public address/intercom systems, and auditorium technology; Pull and route CAT5e, CAT6, and future standard cables in new or existing buildings; Pull and route A/V cables in new and existing buildings; Label all cable runs clearly and accurately and maintain related documentation if applicable; Demonstrate strong cable management skills, including the ability to organize and store cables in a manner that does not interfere with devices, damage the aesthetic of hte building, or create a safety hazard; Maintain and support all auditorium equipment, including sound boards, light boards, and lighting components; Execute projects efficiently, and with full adherence to industry and district standards, Installation of structured cabling supports, such as j-hooks, cable racks, and innerduct; Testing newly installed or relocated cables using multimeters, tone generators, and cable certifiers; Identify and remove old or redundant cables including but not limited to decommissioned coax, network, etc; Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, manuals, and other specifications to determine the layout of cabling systems; Maintain a clean job site, picking up all tools and equipment, and securing the job site each day to eliminate hazards and security risks; Maintain and develop safe cabling pathways; Maintain documentation of buiding infrastructure and work completed; Work collaboratively with IT and Facilities teams to resolve problems; Maintain accountabililty and readiness of all tools and equipment; Keep district vehicles clean, organized, and presentable at all times; Support the district's help desk by processing assigned tickets ni a timely fashion, with exeptional customer service; Partner with vendors regarding product roadmap, enhancement suggestions and support cases; Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices; Support District A/V and PA system needs at muptiple sites as neded; Assist with annual inspections of fire alarm panels, initiating devices (smoke/heat detectors, pull stations), and notification appliances (horns, strobes) as needed; Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to fire alarm malfunctions or "trouble" signals after hours; May perform other special projects related to systems technology; Performs other related duties as required. Acceptable Experience and Training High school diploma or equivalent; Two years work experience with data infrastructure, involving troubleshooting, analysis and problem resolution; Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform as an effective and competent Structured Cabling Technician; Must hold a valid driver's license; BICSI INSTI or INSTC certification or equavlent preferred. Essential Physical Abilities Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to monitor classroom activites and discern verbal instructions, communicate effectively in person, and to hear sounds within the normal range of conversation; Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to monitor classroom activities and comprehend written work instructions and comprehend, review, and prepare a variety of written and text documents and materials; Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate classroom and office equipment, including a personal computer; Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in various office/school locations with computer equipment, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 50 lbs; Occasionally some job tasks may require, with or without reasonable accommoation, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping.
