Job Description

Lead Structured Cabling Technician | Demarc Telecom and Utility LLC The Lead Low Voltage Technician serves as the primary on-site lead for network cabling and fiber optic projects. This role balances high-level field execution with team leadership to ensure every installation is safe, compliant, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Leadership:
Directs daily crew operations, task planning, and material management to maintain peak productivity.
Technical Execution:
Oversees end-to-end copper and fiber installations, including pathway planning, terminations, labeling, and testing.
Quality & Compliance:
Manages rack/MDF/IDF buildouts, grounding, and bonding while ensuring all work meets rigorous specifications.
Project Coordination:
Acts as the bridge between the customer and the Project Manager, resolving field issues and delivering final closeout documentation (test results and as-builts).
Core Competencies:
Structured Cabling | Fiber Splicing Coordination | Backbone Cabling | Project Documentation | Site Safety & Professionalism Project Leadership & Site Management Act as the primary on-site point of contact for clients, general contractors, and project managers to ensure seamless communication. Lead daily field operations , including crew supervision, task delegation, and workflow planning to meet project milestones. Manage site resources , ensuring all materials, tools, and specialized testing equipment are organized and available. Enforce safety and quality standards , performing regular walk-throughs to ensure installations are clean, labeled, and compliant with BICSI or site-specific standards. Network & Infrastructure Installation Execute end-to-end structured cabling for copper (Cat5e/6/6A) and fiber optic systems (Single-mode/Multi-mode). Build out telecommunications rooms , including the precision installation of racks, cabinets, cable trays, and MDF/IDF components. Direct pathway construction , planning and installing J-hooks, conduit, and sleeve penetrations to support cable infrastructure. Perform technical terminations and splicing , ensuring high-performance connectivity for backbone and horizontal cabling. Testing, Troubleshooting & Closeout Conduct rigorous testing using Fluke (or similar) testers to verify link performance and Tier 1/Tier 2 fiber certification. Resolve complex field issues and technical roadblocks quickly to prevent schedule delays. Finalize project documentation , including the delivery of accurate test results and "as-built" redline drawings for the client.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
5-10 years of hands-on experience in low voltage cabling, with a proven track record in a lead or "point person" capacity.
Licensing & Certification:
MA Class D Systems Technician License:
Highly preferred. Candidates possessing this license are eligible for a higher starting pay scale.
Industry Certifications:
Preference given to candidates with certifications from BICSI (installer or technician) , Corning , CommScope , or Siemon .
Technical Knowledge:
Deep understanding of TIA/EIA industry standards and local electrical/building codes.
Project Environments:
Proficient in both New Construction (rough-in through trim) and Tenant Build-outs/Retrofits (working in occupied spaces).
Blueprints & Schematics:
Expert ability to read and interpret floor plans, T-drawings, and wiring schematics to plan pathways and drops accurately.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work on ladders, operate lifts (Scissor/Boom), and lift up to 50 lbs.
Professionalism:
Strong leadership skills with the ability to represent Demarc Telecom professionally to clients and site foremen.
