We are looking for experienced technicians that can install cabling, cameras, access controls and a variety of other networking equipment. Technicians are responsible for all tasks associated with the installation, upgrade, ongoing maintenance, and testing of all related equipment. We are making technology simple for small to medium enterprises with onsite tech support, managed services, telecommunications, infrastructure cabling, project management and implementation, consultation, and training. We have established ourselves as a leader in delivering quality information technology products and services to small to medium enterprises in Southeastern Michigan. Full Job Description:
Low Voltage Cable Technician 2 Primary responsibilities for this position include: Minimum of 3 years of experience. Data cabling and systems administration in a variety of software and hardware environments. Identifying root-causes of operational issues and process inefficiencies. Installation of fiber optic cabling systems. Pulling, installing, termination and testing of low voltage fiber optic cabling. Build out of cabling infrastructure, including cages, trays, racks, ladder racks, j-hooks, d-rings. Pulling, testing, routing, installing and terminating structured cabling infrastructure in a commercial environment. Use of
CAT 5, CAT 5E, CAT 6 , CAT6A
cables/ auxiliary equipment and physically install the same. Follow industry and company standards and guidelines with installation of transport equipment, cabling and low voltage work. Evaluate, diagnose, and troubleshoot products and systems, and perform repairs as necessary. Drill holes for wiring in wall studs, joists, ceilings, floors, and other areas as required. Feed cables through access holes, roof spaces, and cavity walls. Installation of outlets, pulling cable, fire stopping and pretermination including organizing, forming, dressing and labeling cables to industry standards. Terminate, assemble and install RJ45 modular connectors and coaxial connectors. Accurately test copper (and fiber multimode and single mode) cables to required certification parameters utilizing appropriate test equipment as required. Removal and demolition of abandoned cables. Determine closet and equipment layouts and install closet hardware including backboards, connecting blocks, racks, patch panels and fiber enclosures. Demonstrate basic knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, cabling standards and components. Mount and fasten control panels and other security equipment, including but not limited to camera equipment and access control equipment. Keep informed of new products and developments. Network connectivity troubleshooting. Hardware replacement of network and server equipment. Keep customer's facilities safe and leave it clean when the job is complete. Basic knowledge of
VOIP TCP/IP
networks, and wireless solutions required. Familiarity with Microsoft. Experience with installation, upgrade, repair, and maintenance of computer software, hardware, and peripherals, both on standalone and network system. Capable of mounting smart boards. Experience with cabling codes. Computer knowledge including Office 365, and products used within the company. Ability to type with some speed. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Familiarity with Turing and PDK systems preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and service ceiling mounted devices. Must be able to lift equipment for 'rack and stack' services (server, router, switch, UPS devices, etc.) Ability to walk long distances on job sites. On occasion, work will be performed in a dusty, hot, or cold (beyond average room temperature) environments. Ability to climb stairs and ladders, including extension ladders. Some services may require periods on hand and knees to install equipment (under desks, inside small spaces, etc.). Occasionally, based on a project, work hours may vary from the traditional 8-6 day. Must be flexible to work later in the day and/or very occasional travel on weekend to out of state project site. Company vans provided for use of jobs.
Education and desired experience:
High School Diploma (MUST) Cabling and equipment installation required (minimum of 3 years). Capable of operating a variety of hand and power tools. Typing speed minimum of 25 wpm. Knowledge of computer applications (Office 365, time keeping, Teams and other internal platforms). Driving/certification of lift use. OSHA 10 certified. BICSI Certification is a plus.
