Structured Cabling Technician Overview We are seeking an experienced Structured Cabling Technician to support the installation and buildout of commercial data infrastructure systems. This role is responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting copper and fiber optic cabling systems that serve as the backbone of modern network environments. Projects include office buildings, healthcare facilities, schools, data centers, distribution centers, and other commercial construction environments. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with structured cabling installations, pathway construction, cable routing, rack and cabinet buildouts, and network infrastructure deployments. This position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale projects supporting critical communications and data systems. Responsibilities Install, route, dress, and secure Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cabling in commercial environments. Build and maintain structured cabling systems supporting voice, data, wireless, security, and network infrastructure. Install cable pathways including J-hooks, cable tray, ladder rack, basket tray, conduit, and innerduct. Terminate copper and fiber optic cabling to industry standards. Install, dress, and label patch panels, racks, cabinets, and network equipment. Perform cable certification, testing, and troubleshooting using industry-standard testing equipment. Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, riser diagrams, and construction drawings. Conduct cable tracing, labeling, documentation, and as-built updates. Assist with MDF, IDF, and data room buildouts. Maintain compliance with project specifications, customer standards, and industry best practices. Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, and other trades to ensure successful project execution. Follow all OSHA and jobsite safety requirements. Qualifications 2+ years of structured cabling experience in commercial construction environments. Experience installing and terminating copper and fiber optic cabling systems. Ability to read construction drawings, cable schedules, and network infrastructure documentation. Familiarity with BICSI standards and structured cabling best practices. Experience with cable testing and certification equipment. Proficient with hand tools, power tools, punch-down tools, cable testers, fusion splicers, and termination equipment. Knowledge of MDF/IDF buildouts, rack elevations, patch panels, and cable management systems. Ability to work from ladders, lifts, and in active construction environments. Strong attention to detail, organization, and workmanship quality. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred. Preferred Experience Data center infrastructure installations. Fiber optic termination, testing, and troubleshooting. Healthcare, education, hospitality, or large commercial construction projects. BICSI Technician, Installer, or related industry certifications. $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
