Job Description

Access Control
  • Cable Technician Columbus, OH 43260 From $35 an hour
  • Full-time From $35 an hour
  • Full-time Lead Access Control Technician Cable Communications Inc.
| Columbus, OH Who We're Looking For We need a technician who thrives on variety and doesn't need their hand held. You won't be a specialist in one system — you'll be the person we put in front of an unfamiliar panel, an incomplete set of drawings, or a frustrated customer, and you'll figure it out. If you're the type who does their homework, takes good notes, and just wants to get the job done right, read on. This is a lead role. You'll run crews of mixed skill levels, keep jobs on track, and be the point person on some of our larger multifamily/phased projects — which means you have to stay organized, communicate with the PM, and keep timelines moving across multiple buildings and phases. When access control work is slow, you're comfortable picking up a bag and running cabling to our standards alongside the crew — no ego, just teamwork. We want the divide-and-conquer mentality. What You Bring Solid access control experience across multiple systems — you've seen enough panels that a new one doesn't scare you. You can read the manual, work through the logic, and get it commissioned.
Experience with door hardware:
mag locks, strikes, REX devices, door contacts — the full picture. Comfortable reading blueprints, submittals, and wiring diagrams to figure out what needs to happen. Strong structured cabling skills (copper and fiber) — clean installs, properly labeled, done to spec. Some IP networking background — enough to commission an IP-based access or camera system without needing IT to babysit you. Experience leading a crew. You know how to read your team, assign work to the right skill level, and keep the job moving efficiently. Multiphase/multifamily project experience is a big plus — if you've worked large phased builds and know how to manage continuity across phases, say so. What You'll Do Day to Day Lead installation and commissioning of access control systems across commercial and multifamily projects Troubleshoot and service existing systems — diagnose first, then fix Coordinate with the PM on project timelines, open items, and phasing milestones Lead and direct field crews of varying experience levels Fill in as a team member on jobs where you're not the lead — same effort, different hat Run structured cabling when the schedule calls for it Communicate clearly with customers on-site — status updates, issue explanations, sign-offs Document your work: service notes, as-builts, customer acknowledgements Required 3+ years of hands-on access control installation and troubleshooting experience Demonstrated ability to work across multiple platforms/systems Crew lead or foreman experience Valid driver's license and clean driving record Preferred Multifamily / phased project background Low-voltage license or certification (ESA, NICET, or equivalent) HubSpot, BuildOps, or similar field service software familiarity
