Job Description

Remote Alaska Solutions is looking for an experienced Heavy Diesel/Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. About Us Remote Alaska Solutions and its various divisions specialize in efficient, durable, and sustainable construction techniques built for Alaska's toughest conditions. Our mechanics keep our crews moving by ensuring equipment is reliable and safe. Position Overview Based out of our Palmer shop and yard, the Heavy Diesel/Fleet Mechanic will handle routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs, as well as manage the logistics and operations of the company's primary yard. Responsibilities Repairing vehicles, replacing parts, changing oil & rotating tires, inspecting mechanical components, including diesel engines, diagnosing problems, and performing regular maintenance work on the company's vehicles and heavy equipment. Running & analyzing diagnostic tests. Maintaining engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions, lighting, differential units, generators, tires, hydraulics and braking systems. Checking and replacing batteries, fluid levels/lubrication, belts, wheel bearings, etc. on a timely and regular basis. Performing routine brake inspections/adjustments according to DOT requirements. Test driving vehicles to gauge performance. Responding to field calls. Maintaining detailed, legible and accurate maintenance and repair records and work orders. Adhering to a procedural inspection checklist. Maintaining and procuring parts inventory through approved vendors. Ensuring the cleanliness of a neat and orderly shop and company yard. Maintaining a high level of safety compliance, reviewing operational and mechanical safety-related issues, and adhering to all company safety policies. Prioritizing service and repair based on company needs and deadlines. Communicating with construction crew and leadership team to ensure adherence to preventative vehicle maintenance policies and practices. Upholding federal, state and local regulations governing the disposal of hazardous waste. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of heavy truck or diesel mechanic experience. High school diploma or GED required. ASE Diesel Certification or equivalent training is a plus. Ability to road-test company vehicles ( Class A CDL preferred ). Skilled in using diagnostic software, power tools, and repair equipment. Physically able to stand for long periods, lift 50+ lbs, and work outdoors. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage paperwork and parts inventory. Basic First Aid knowledge. Must have a basic set of tools. Compensation & Schedule Full-time, hourly position based in Palmer, Alaska. Pay based on experience, with performance-based incentives available . Healthcare benefits (Direct Primary Care available).
