This role is ideal for mechanics with 1-5 years of experience who want exposure to a wide variety of equipment , hands‑on training, and a long‑term career path in industrial maintenance. Work Schedule & Shift Requirements Rotating shifts: 6:00 AM
  • 2:00 PM 2:00 PM
  • 10:00 PM Rotation occurs bi‑weekly Weekend work is required as part of normal operations
  • based on business needs This role is best suited for technicians comfortable with shift rotation and flexible scheduling Job Summary The Mechanic Level I reports to the Service Center Manager and inspects, diagnoses, and repairs diesel‑powered lift trucks and industrial equipment .
The fleet includes everything from small equipment (weed eaters) to large‑scale industrial assets such as locomotives , making versatility and a willingness to learn critical to success. Technicians perform preventive maintenance, mechanical and hydraulic repairs, and troubleshooting of electrical systems using diagnostic tools. As skills grow, technicians take on more complex and varied equipment. Key Responsibilities Inspect and diagnose equipment across a highly diverse fleet Perform repairs on diesel engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, and exhaust components Troubleshoot and maintain hydraulic systems (pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses) Diagnose and repair electrical systems using meters and schematics Perform preventative maintenance to improve reliability and uptime Work on equipment ranging from small tools to large industrial machinery Operate equipment to verify repairs and proper operation Fabricate and weld components as needed Maintain accurate maintenance and service records Follow safety standards and maintain a clean, organized work area Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications & Skills What We're Looking For 1-5 years of experience in diesel, heavy equipment, industrial, or mechanical maintenance Comfortable working on multiple types of equipment rather than a single platform Strong mechanical aptitude and hydraulic understanding Willingness to troubleshoot and learn electrical systems Experience with hand tools, shop equipment, and diagnostic tools Must have your own basic tools; speciality tools will be provided Welding or fabrication experience is a plus Ability to read technical manuals and schematics Reliability with rotating shifts and weekend work Basic computer skills for documentation Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work Education & Experience Vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics, hydraulics, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance preferred 1-2 years experience: strong training and mentor support provided 3-5 years experience: opportunity for faster progression and broader responsibility Formal schooling may substitute for some experience Benefits Medical & Prescription Coverage Dental & Vision Insurance Paid Vacation 10 Paid Holidays 401(k) Retirement Plan Life Insurance Ongoing hands‑on and factory‑supported technical training Why Technicians Choose This Role Work on a wide variety of equipment —no repetitive repairs Gain experience across diesel, hydraulics, electrical, and fabrication Rotating shifts that provide structured scheduling Long‑term career path with skill progression Stable, family‑owned company with nearly 100 years of history For immediate consideration APPLY TODAY and grow your career by working on one of the most diverse industrial fleets in the industry with Taylor Sudden Service.
