Job Description

Penna Construction, is a Construction Company based in Fairfield County CT that specializes in Underground Utility Excavation. We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic/ Shop Coordinator to join our team. The successful candidate will be performing routine maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of industrial equipment and heavy-duty vehicles. The candidate will also assist with scheduling repairs and overseeing portions of the shop. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diesel mechanics and require a combination of technical skills and hands-on experience in the field. CDL License Required.
Duties Include:
Diagnose and Repair on a fleet of heavy equipment, trucks and vehicles in shop and on occasion off-site Perform preventative maintenance (PMs), inspections and repairs on light and heavy trucks Perform DOT inspections and certifications Maintain vehicle records Tires, Brakes, Suspension, Electrical Repair knowledge of diesel and gas engines Experience with hydraulic and air brakes Electrical, hydraulic and engine repairs Excellent trouble shooting skills Oversees DOT Compliance as it relates to the Fleet Responsible for the successful completion of work orders Maintain inventory and perform quarterly inventory audit
Track Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance:
Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, inspections, and testing.
Lead Mechanic:
Take charge of overseeing and performing complex repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks. Lead the team in diagnosing mechanical issues, ensuring high-quality work and adherence to safety standards. The following preferred experience is a plus: DOT Certified or willing to get certified after the 90-day probation period Experience with ABS Systems Welding and some fabrication Class A CDL Engine overhaul
Skills and Qualifications:
7+-year experience in maintenance and repair Must supply own tools Valid State License Follow both verbal and written instructions Must be able to lift 60 pounds Must be able to pass a required drug test, physical and criminal background check We offer paid training and paid certification training. Safety-sensitive employees are subject to the company's required quarterly non-DOT (or Federal DOT if a Class A CDL is held) Random Drug policy which requires non-DOT safety-sensitive position testing.
