Diesel Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on performing routine preventative maintenance and basic repairs on diesel-powered cement mixers and trucks in a large industrial yard and shop environment. You will inspect, service, and troubleshoot diesel engines and related mechanical systems to keep a fleet of vehicles operating safely and efficiently. Responsibilities Perform routine preventative maintenance on diesel-powered cement mixers and trucks, including oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, and lubrication. Diagnose minor mechanical issues on diesel engines, transmissions, and related systems, and coordinate with the team to complete necessary repairs. Replace, realign, and adjust motors, pumps, and other mechanical components as needed to maintain optimal equipment performance. Inspect and service hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems to ensure safe and reliable operation of fleet vehicles and heavy equipment. Conduct basic engine and trailer repairs, addressing issues with brakes, engines, and other critical components. Use blueprints, schematics, or technical drawings to understand system layouts and guide repairs or adjustments. Maintain an organized work area and properly use and care for a basic personal tool set. Follow safety procedures and guidelines while working in an outdoor and partially indoor industrial environment. Collaborate with other technicians and team members to prioritize work and ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks. Essential Skills Minimum of 1 year of hands-on mechanical, diesel, or maintenance experience OR completion of a trade school program in automotive, diesel, or a related field. Basic understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and mechanical systems. Ability to perform preventative maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles, including oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, and lubrication. Experience with diesel engine repair, transmission work, and general engine repair. Familiarity with fleet maintenance and diesel maintenance practices. Ability to diagnose and repair issues involving hydraulics, pneumatics, brakes, and heavy equipment. Comfort reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, or technical drawings. Basic trailer repair skills and experience working with mechanical and hydraulic systems. Possession of a basic set of tools suitable for diesel and mechanical work. Valid driver's license. Additional Skills & Qualifications Trade school training in automotive, diesel, or a related technical field. Experience working in a fleet maintenance environment. Exposure to working on cement mixers, heavy equipment, or similar industrial vehicles. Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail in preventative maintenance and repair tasks. Work Environment The role is based in a large industrial yard and very large shop that combines outdoor and partially indoor work areas. You will work around diesel-powered cement mixers, trucks, and heavy equipment, using your own basic tools along with shop equipment and resources. The position requires the ability to stand for extended periods and to work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather. The environment is hands-on, physically active, and focused on safe, efficient operation of a busy maintenance facility. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Odessa, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
