Job Summary:
Shift Schedule:
4pm-4am Under the guidance of shop leadership and senior mechanics, you will perform intermediate-to-advanced repairs and preventative maintenance on both Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) heavy-duty vehicles. You will play a vital role in ensuring GFL's waste and recycling fleet operates safely, efficiently, and continuously.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnostics & Repairs:
Perform standard electronic diagnostics, system troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel engines, CNG systems, electrical equipment, and hydraulic systems.
Inspections:
Conduct basic and DOT/brake inspections on brake systems, engine components, emission systems, steering mechanisms, and wheel bearings.
Test Driving:
Test drive trucks to diagnose operational issues and verify repair success.
Hydraulic & Specialized Equipment:
Maintain and repair heavy-duty waste equipment systems (trash/refuse experience preferred).
Administrative & Shop Duties:
Log repairs, complete digital work orders, request parts, and maintain a safe, clean work environment in accordance with OSHA and GFL standards.
Growth:
Actively participate in GFL training classes and skill development programs.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Experience & Certifications:
3+ years of heavy-duty commercial diesel and/or CNG maintenance experience (trash/refuse equipment experience preferred) . Brake Safety Certificate and 609 A/C System Certification are required. Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and related state/federal safety regulations. Must pass a Maintenance Exam during the interview process.
Licensing & Tools:
Valid Driver's License required. Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred (or willingness/ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire). Must own a personal set of foundational mechanic hand tools. ASE Certifications are a strong plus.
Tech & Communication Skills:
Computer literate with experience using electronic diagnostic software (or willingness to learn GFL maintenance systems). Strong communication skills to interact with shop leadership, team members, and vendors.
Physical & Mental Demands:
Physical Capability:
Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, reach above shoulders, lift up to 50 lbs., and push/pull up to 100 lbs.
Visual & Mental Focus:
Continuous visual and mental attention required for technical diagnostics, close/distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
Equipment Use:
Ability to safely operate commercial waste trucks, shop tools, and computer workstations.
