Diesel Shop Technician Job Description The Production Technician cleans, inspects, and services utility and heavy trucks to ensure they are safe and ready for the road. This role performs mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on customer and company-owned equipment, while carefully managing repair costs and documenting all work performed. Responsibilities Wash and clean utility trucks and related equipment to ensure they are safe, presentable, and ready for operation. Run diagnostics on customer and company-owned trucks and heavy equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues. Perform mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment. Inspect components and parts to maximize reuse where appropriate and help control overall repair costs. Complete all required documentation using the appropriate software to accurately record repairs performed and track repair times. Monitor job expenses against repair estimates and promptly inform the supervisor of any potential cost overruns before the job is completed. Ensure all work meets safety and quality standards so vehicles and equipment are safe to return to service. Essential Skills Hands-on experience cleaning and washing utility trucks and heavy equipment. Proficiency in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on trucks and heavy equipment. Demonstrated ability to perform maintenance and repairs on utility trucks, bucket trucks, diesel vehicles, and related equipment. Experience with automotive repair and automotive technology, including upfitting work on trucks and equipment. Ability to inspect components to determine reusability and make cost-effective repair decisions. Competence using software to document repairs, track repair times, and maintain accurate service records. Ability to monitor repair costs versus estimates and communicate variances in a timely manner. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety when preparing vehicles for road use. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with utility trucks, bucket trucks, or similar specialized vehicles. Experience with diesel engines and related systems. Familiarity with upfitting processes for trucks and heavy equipment. Ability to work independently and as part of a repair shop team. Work Environment This role is based in a repair shop environment with work performed both indoors and outdoors, depending on the equipment and tasks. You will work around trucks, heavy equipment, and diagnostic tools in a hands-on, service-focused setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Union City, GA.
