Job Description

Job Summary:
A Diesel Technician will perform repair work and maintenance for the motorcoaches, relay cars, shop trucks, and other motor vehicles in the company's fleet.Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains vehicles and equipment, which may include but is not limited to: cars, trucks, motorcoaches, tractors, trailers, skid steers, fork lifts, scissor lifts, etc.
- Basic responsibilities include but are not limited to tires, lights, brakes, chassis/suspension, engines (Detroit and Cummins), Allison Transmissions, Exhaust, HVAC, Electrical (AC & DC), passenger safety systems, glass work, shop safety and shop maintenance.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
- Performs tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function.
- Identifies mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
- Examines critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
- Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
- Plans and establishes timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.
- Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation.
- Performs repairs from driver write-ups.
- Assists the parts department.
- Routine facility maintenance as directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.
- Excellent mechanical repair skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read service and repair manuals.
- Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to get a job done quickly and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Organized and detail minded.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in mechanical or industrial maintenance.
- Three or more years related experience and/or training, or equivalent education and experience.
- A commercial driver's license (within 90 days of employment).
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand, bend, stretch, kneel, squat and crawl to perform repairs and inspections.
- Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
- This position is very active and will require standing for much of the workday.
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Work Environment:
- Work in a new, modern, smoke-free environment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
