Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a skilled Heavy Diesel Mechanic to support the maintenance, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of a diverse fleet of trucks, tow equipment, trailers, industrial equipment, and related heavy-duty vehicles. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical knowledge, practical hands-on repair experience, sound diagnostic judgment, and a commitment to safety, quality, and efficient fleet readiness. Essential Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, air brake systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, HVAC components, suspension systems, steering systems, and related heavy-duty equipment.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, tire service, brake inspections, fluid checks, belts, hoses, batteries, lights, and safety inspections.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, air system, and performance issues using diagnostic tools, schematics, technical manuals, service information, and practical testing procedures.
  • Inspect trucks, trailers, tow units, rollbacks, wreckers, tractors, equipment, and attachments to identify needed repairs before breakdowns or safety concerns occur.
  • Perform brake repairs, suspension repairs, shocks and struts replacement, wheel-end service, alignments, and related vehicle maintenance tasks within qualification and training.
  • Fabricate, weld, solder, modify, or repair parts and components as needed, using proper tools, procedures, and safety controls.
  • Operate vehicles and heavy equipment for testing, diagnostics, repositioning, and post-repair verification when properly qualified and authorized.
  • Maintain accurate repair orders, service records, inspection notes, parts usage, photos, and documentation in the company system.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop area; properly use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, jacks, stands, and shop equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, lockout/tagout practices, PPE requirements, environmental rules, and applicable DOT or fleet maintenance standards. Required Qualifications
  • Proven mechanical repair experience with diesel trucks, heavy equipment, tow trucks, trailers, tractors, or similar fleet vehicles.
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, hydraulics, electrical diagnostics, mechanical systems, and preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, repair manuals, parts information, and technical service procedures.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, shop equipment, lifts, jacks, and stands.
  • Ability to inspect, diagnose, prioritize, and complete repairs accurately with limited supervision.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving and insurance requirements when test driving or moving equipment is assigned.
  • Ability to pass required pre-employment checks, which may include background screening, motor vehicle record review, drug testing, and any DOT requirements applicable to the position.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, attention to detail, communication skills, and commitment to safe repair practices. Preferred Experience or Certifications
  • ASE, diesel technology, heavy truck, air brake, welding, HVAC, DOT inspection, or manufacturer training certifications.
  • Experience with towing equipment, rollbacks, wreckers, hydraulics, winch systems, PTO systems, truck-mounted equipment, and trailer repair.
  • Experience with diagnostic software, scan tools, electrical testing, hydraulic troubleshooting, and fleet maintenance systems.
  • CDL, medical card, or experience safely moving trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment, when applicable to company needs.
  • Customer service experience is a plus when coordinating repairs, updates, inspections, or vendor communication. Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, crawl, lift, carry, push, pull, and work around trucks and heavy equipment as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds, or more with assistance or mechanical support, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to work in shop and outdoor environments with exposure to noise, vibration, dust, fumes, grease, fluids, traffic areas, weather, and moving equipment.
  • Must use required PPE and follow safe work practices when operating tools, lifts, jacks, stands, welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, and vehicles. Compensation and Benefits

Pay:
$28.00 - $35.00 per hour
