Diesel Mechanic Manager 3.3 3.3 out of 5 stars New Iberia, LA 70560 From $100,000 a year - Full-time The Bayou Companies 16 reviews From $100,000 a year - Full-time Description We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic to lead our in-house maintenance operations. This role is responsible for overseeing all maintenance and repair activities, managing shop personnel, coordinating parts and inventory, and ensuring maximum equipment uptime. This is a leadership position requiring both technical expertise and strong organizational skills. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily shop operations and maintenance activities for all heavy equipment Supervise, train, and manage shop mechanics and support staff Diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues when needed Plan and prioritize repairs to minimize equipment downtime and support operations Implement and manage preventative maintenance programs Create, review, and approve parts requisitions and ensure accurate ordering of parts and materials Manage parts inventory levels, vendors, and purchasing processes Track and control maintenance costs, budgets, and repair timelines Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, and reporting Coordinate with operations teams to schedule repairs and equipment availability Ensure all equipment meets safety and compliance standards Enforce shop safety policies and OSHA regulations Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment Equipment Managed Loaders Excavators Cranes Dozers Forklifts Skid steers Trucks and trailers Other diesel-powered heavy machinery Requirements 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment or diesel mechanics 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role (preferred) Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems Proven ability to manage a maintenance shop or team Experience with budgeting, cost tracking, and vendor management Valid driver's license required Skills & Abilities Strong leadership and team management skills Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic ability Strong organizational and time management skills Proficiency in computer systems required, including: Creating and approving parts requisitions Tracking work orders, inventory, and repair costs Ability to source and identify correct parts using manuals and digital systems Strong communication skills with both field and management teams Ability to work under pressure and make decisions quickly Detail-oriented with a focus on efficiency and cost control
