Marine Diesel Mechanic Arnold Transit Company Position Summary Arnold Transit Company is seeking an experienced Marine Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team. This position is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and overhaul of diesel engines and related mechanical systems aboard our fleet of commercial passenger vessels. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and have experience working on medium or high-speed marine diesel engines, propulsion systems, hydraulic systems, and vessel support equipment. This position is critical to ensuring fleet reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, maintain, and overhaul marine diesel engines and associated equipment. Perform preventative maintenance on propulsion systems, generators, pumps, hydraulic systems, steering systems, and auxiliary machinery. Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, fuel, cooling, and exhaust system issues. Inspect and maintain transmissions, reduction gears, shafts, couplings, bearings, and related propulsion components. Perform engine alignments, component replacements, and system upgrades. Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, maintenance procedures, and manufacturer specifications. Support U.S. Coast Guard inspections and regulatory compliance requirements. Operate diagnostic equipment and specialized tools. Respond to emergency repairs and after-hours callouts when required. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of diesel mechanic experience preferred. Strong knowledge of diesel engine operation, maintenance, and repair. Experience troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, cooling, fuel, and electrical support systems. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins. Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid driver's license required. Preferred Qualifications Marine diesel engine experience. Experience working on commercial passenger vessels. Familiarity with Caterpillar, MTU, or similar marine engines. Knowledge of U.S. Coast Guard regulations and vessel maintenance requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to work in engine rooms, machinery spaces, and aboard vessels in varying weather conditions. Ability to climb ladders, board vessels, and work in confined spaces. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work extended periods performing mechanical repairs. Benefits Competitive wages based on experience.
