POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanic will collaborate with other mechanics and repair team members to ensure M.L. Chartier's vehicles are safe and operating proficiently. They will also respond to maintenance requests and handle major and minor repairs. A professional and well-versed problem solver who is a critical thinker and loves working with trucks and equipment daily. The candidate must be team-oriented and able to thrive in a fast-paced and continuously evolving shop environment. A positive attitude and open-mindedness are required. Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities Responsible to maintaining a large fleet of state-of-the-art trucks and equipment Must keep equipment and workshop space clean Operate and maintain equipment for class 8 trucks and other fleet vehicles Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret results Repair brakes, engines, and other associated parts with each truck Conduct field visits in case of emergency or sudden breakdown Maintain records of inventory and service done Complete oil change and brake checks Assist with the building and maintenance of a large fleet of state-of-the-art trucks and equipment Fabricate bumpers, chain boxes, storage racks, winch mounts and more Weld, straighten, brace or replace broken components on trucks and heavy equipment Repair damaged tanks, dumpsters, dump beds, axles and more. Maintain a clean and organized workspace Operate forklifts and other equipment as needed in support of repair work Complete detailed work orders for all projects and repairs Team player able to coordinate and work with our mechanics to complete larger builds and projects Adhere to and enforce all safety standards Participate in and promote the safety culture Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Must have experience working on class 8 trucks Experience with CAT off-road equipment is a plus Willing to work until the job is complete Demonstrated ability to work with tools Preferred experience in ESA, Insight, CAT, Bendix Proficient in all welding processes including MIG, TIG, and stick welding Work with various metals including steel, stainless steel and aluminum Precise Oxy-Acetylene torching and plasma cutting ability Use a variety of tools to disassemble and reassemble trucks and equipment to execute welding repairs. Must possess own set of tools and toolbox. Use tape measures, calipers, and micrometers to measure precisely to assist with duplication and repair of components Use squares, plumbs, levels, compasses and other specialty tools to assist with fabrication layout and design. Use a variety of shop tools including presses, band saws, shears, grinders and brakes Innovative fabricator able to design and build various components and parts Knowledge of proper sandblasting and painting techniques is a plus though not mandatory Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment under pressure/deadlines Effective verbal and written communication skills Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities Follow instructions given both orally and written Ability to work independently, with accuracy and in accordance with company safety and quality standards Ability to communicate in English with other employees for the purpose of hazard recognition, problem solving, or other purposes Physical/ Mental Demands Required to exert physical effort that will include but is not limited to frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, keeling, crawling, balancing, and climbing Continuous standing and walking on shop floor. Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.) Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, heat, weather extremes or similar elements often Ability to use hands and fingers with dexterity, speak (in English), and hear accurately Continuous concentrated mental and visual attention required Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
