Diesel Mechanic Job Description Join a long-established, family-owned diesel repair shop that has been serving customers for over five decades. In this role, you will perform a wide range of diagnostic, repair, and maintenance services on trucks, trailers, buses, heavy equipment, and other diesel-powered vehicles. You will handle everything from routine preventative maintenance to complex engine and transmission repairs while working in a supportive, hands-on environment that values both experienced technicians and those eager to continue learning on the job. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive diagnostics and troubleshooting on diesel engines, transmissions, and related systems to identify issues accurately and efficiently. Carry out preventative maintenance services, including oil changes, PMA/B services, and other scheduled service tasks on trucks, trailers, buses, and heavy equipment. Inspect and repair braking systems, including brake components, to ensure safe and reliable operation of all vehicles. Perform clutch work, including inspection, adjustment, and replacement of clutch components as needed. Conduct engine repair work, including disassembly, component replacement, and reassembly of diesel engines. Service and repair transmissions, including diagnosis, removal, repair, and installation of manual and automatic units. Complete DOT inspections to ensure vehicles meet all required safety and compliance standards. Perform boom and crane inspections and repairs, ensuring lifting equipment operates safely and meets regulatory requirements. Carry out welding and light fabrication tasks as needed to support repairs on frames, brackets, and other structural components. Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems on heavy equipment and other diesel-powered machinery. Diagnose and repair pneumatic systems, including air lines, valves, and related components. Perform body work and related repairs on vehicles and equipment when required. Document all work performed, including parts used and services completed, in a clear and accurate manner. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following shop procedures and best practices. Use personal tools and shop equipment properly and safely while protecting customer vehicles and property. Collaborate with other technicians and shop personnel to prioritize work, share knowledge, and ensure timely completion of repairs. Participate in on-the-job training and, when applicable, formal education sponsored by the company to enhance technical skills and knowledge. Essential Skills 4-5+ years of experience in a diesel or trailer mechanic position. Proven experience working with diesel engines, including diagnostics, maintenance, and repair. Hands-on experience with transmission repair, including diagnosis and replacement. Strong experience in preventative maintenance on diesel vehicles and equipment. Ability to perform diagnostics and troubleshooting on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Experience working with heavy equipment and diesel-powered machinery. Proficiency in welding for repair and light fabrication tasks. Capability to perform brake work, clutch work, and general engine repair. Familiarity with DOT inspections and related safety and compliance requirements. Ownership of a personal set of tools suitable for diesel mechanic work. Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair tasks in a busy shop environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to performing high-quality, reliable repairs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience performing PMA/B services and scheduled maintenance programs. Exposure to boom and crane inspections and repairs. Comfort working on a wide variety of equipment, including trucks, trailers, buses, and heavy machinery. Interest in continuing education related to diesel maintenance and repair, with willingness to attend school supported by the company. Desire to grow skills through on-the-job training in a hands-on environment. Ability to communicate clearly with team members about repair needs, timelines, and completed work. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Inver Grove Heights, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41600.00

- Flexible hours (they are willing to have people start any time between 6AM
- 8AM. Additionally, they are open to candidates that cannot work a full time schedule.
