Diesel Mechanic — Heavy/Highway/Utility Construction

Job Summary G. DeVincentis & Son Construction Co., Inc. is a family-owned heavy/highway/utility contractor based in Binghamton, NY, specializing in water, sewer, road, and concrete construction. We operate one of the largest construction fleets in NY/PA and are looking for a Diesel Mechanic to join our shop team. This is a full-time, year-round position with steady work, a well-equipped shop, and a fleet diverse enough that no two days are the same. Pay based on experience. What You'll Be Working On Our fleet includes: Heavy dump trucks — Mack, Kenworth, Western Star, International (single, tandem, and tri-axle) Tractor-trailers, water tanker, sucker / vacuum truck, roll-back, and flatbeds Wheel loaders — Caterpillar, John Deere, Dresser Excavators — Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, John Deere (full-size and mini) Dozers — Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere Backhoes, skid steers, rollers, pavers, and graders Vermeer directional drills Pickup trucks and light service vehicles You'll be working on engines, drivetrains, hydraulics, electrical, brakes, suspension, and everything in between — both in the shop and occasionally in the field on jobsites. Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on diesel trucks and heavy construction equipment Engine work — diesel engines (Cummins, Detroit, Mack, Cat, John Deere, etc.) Hydraulic system service and repair (cylinders, pumps, hoses, valves) Drivetrain, transmission, differential, and brake repair Electrical and starting/charging system diagnostics DOT annual inspections on commercial vehicles (preferred — willing to train the right person) Welding and light fabrication as needed Maintain accurate service records and parts logs for each unit Occasional field service calls to active jobsites Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe Requirements 2+ years of diesel mechanic experience (heavy truck or construction equipment) preferred Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and hydraulic diagrams Welding skills (MIG, stick, or both) preferred Reliable, self-directed, and able to manage your own work without constant supervision Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in shop and outdoor conditions Authorized to work in the United States What We Offer $25.00 - $35.00 per hour, based on experience Year-round, full-time work — no seasonal layoff One of the largest and most varied equipment fleets in NY/PA Family-owned company with a long-tenured workforce Steady weekday hours — overtime is optional, never required Schedule Monday through Friday, daytime hours, with overtime available for those who want it.
