Equipment / Shop - Operations Position Summary Jamison Construction Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to oversee the maintenance, repair, organization, and readiness of our fleet, equipment, tools, and shop operations. This position is responsible for keeping JCS equipment safe, reliable, clean, and job-ready. The ideal candidate is a hands-on diesel mechanic with strong leadership, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills. This role requires someone who can both perform mechanical work and manage the daily priorities of a construction shop. This position plays a critical role in supporting field operations by reducing downtime, coordinating repairs, maintaining equipment records, and making sure crews have the equipment and tools needed to perform work safely and efficiently. Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Maintenance & Repair Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel trucks, trailers, paving equipment, excavation equipment, small engines, and support vehicles. Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, oil changes, fluid checks, filter changes, greasing, and routine service. Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, brake, engine, transmission, and fuel system issues. Repair and maintain skid steers, rollers, pavers, milling equipment, excavators, service trucks, trailers, compressors, saws, compactors, and other construction equipment. Coordinate outside repairs with vendors, dealerships, and specialty repair shops when needed. Respond to field breakdowns and provide mobile repairs when practical. Maintain equipment in safe operating condition and identify issues before they cause downtime. Shop Manage the daily organization, cleanliness, safety, and efficiency of the shop. Prioritize repair requests based on operational needs and equipment availability. Track equipment status, open repairs, completed repairs, and upcoming maintenance needs. Communicate clearly with ownership, foremen, and crews regarding equipment readiness and repair timelines. Ensure tools, parts, fluids, filters, supplies, and shop inventory are properly stocked and organized. Maintain an orderly system for parts, tires, attachments, tools, and commonly used supplies. Keep the yard, shop, and equipment storage areas clean, organized, and professional. Fleet & Equipment Readiness Make sure trucks, trailers, machines, and tools are ready for daily field operations. Assist with morning equipment preparation and end-of-day equipment returns as needed. Inspect equipment returning from jobs and identify damage, maintenance needs, or missing items. Help manage equipment assignments, attachments, and job-specific tool needs. Support DOT compliance by helping maintain trucks and trailers in safe, compliant condition. Monitor wear items such as tires, cutting edges, teeth, hoses, tracks, batteries, lights, and brakes. Records, Compliance & Preventive Maintenance Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, inspection reports, and preventive maintenance schedules. Track equipment hours, mileage, service intervals, and recurring mechanical issues. Assist with annual inspections, registrations, DOT-related documentation, and equipment compliance. Report major repair needs, safety concerns, and cost issues to management. Help develop and improve systems for shop workflow, maintenance tracking, and equipment accountability. Leadership & Team Support Lead by example through strong work ethic, accountability, and attention to detail. Communicate professionally with field employees, managers, vendors, and ownership. Help train employees on proper equipment care, daily checks, fueling, greasing, and safe operation. Hold team members accountable for returning tools and equipment in proper condition. Support the overall success of JCS by maintaining a dependable, efficient, and well-managed fleet. Required Qualifications Experience as a diesel mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, fleet mechanic, or similar role. Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, trailers, and construction equipment. Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and complete repairs efficiently. Ability to manage multiple repair priorities in a fast-paced construction environment. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to operate trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment safely. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work independently and take ownership of the shop and fleet. Ability to lift, bend, climb, kneel, work outdoors, and perform physical mechanical work. Commitment to safety, reliability, and professional standards. Preferred Qualifications Experience with asphalt paving, excavation, construction, trucking, or fleet maintenance preferred. Welding and fabrication experience preferred. Experience maintaining pavers, rollers, skid steers, excavators, dump trucks, trailers, and small construction equipment preferred. Experience using maintenance tracking software or digital service records preferred. ASE, diesel, heavy equipment, or manufacturer certifications are a plus. Focused on keeping crews productive and equipment reliable. Work Environment This position is based primarily at the JCS shop and yard, with occasional field service work at job sites. The role includes work around heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, tools, chemicals, oils, fuels, moving parts, outdoor weather conditions, and active construction operations. Schedule This is a full-time position. Hours may vary during the construction season based on workload, equipment needs, and field operations. Some early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekend work may be required during peak season or urgent repair situations.
