Job Description
Diesel Mechanic - Northwest Distribution and Storage Inc. & WineCo LLC About Us Northwest Distribution & Storage has been the foremost wine storage facility in the Pacific Northwest since 1994. We are a secure, licensed and bonded, temperature controlled facility that maintains a constant 58 degrees. Position Summary The Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of company-owned fleet vehicles, trailers, forklifts, reefer units, and other warehouse equipment. This role ensures that all transportation and facility mechanical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. The position requires technical expertise in diesel and general mechanical systems, strong diagnostic skills, and a proactive approach to preventive maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and electrical systems. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on tractors, trailers, forklifts, reefer units, and warehouse mechanical equipment. Conduct DOT and safety inspections to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company standards. Troubleshoot and repair refrigeration units (reefer systems) to maintain proper temperature control for transport and storage operations. Maintain and repair material-handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and small engines. Maintain accurate service records, including parts used, work performed, and inspection results. Respond to emergency repair needs and perform limited roadside service or coordinate external vendors when required. Assist with facility and shop equipment maintenance, such as compressors, hydraulic lifts, and tools. Keep the shop clean, organized, and compliant with all safety requirements. Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and warehouse staff regarding equipment status, repair timelines, and preventive maintenance schedules. Monitor and report recurring mechanical issues to support long-term fleet reliability.OTHER DUTIES
Participate in seasonal maintenance projects or large-scale fleet overhauls. Assist in training drivers and warehouse staff on daily equipment inspection procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned to support maintenance and operations teams.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Flexible schedule; may include early mornings, evenings, or weekend work. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and environmental conditions. Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and use of mechanical tools. Ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds. Manual dexterity and physical endurance required for mechanical repair tasks.PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIREMENTS
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting ability across multiple equipment types. Effective prioritization of repair work and ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Clear communication and coordination with supervisors, drivers, and vendors to ensure minimal downtime.QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in diesel or mechanical systems preferred. Minimum of 2 years' experience in diesel, automotive, or heavy equipment repair (fleet or warehouse equipment experience preferred). Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain. Acceptable driving record required (eligible for company insurance policy). Experience with reefer units, forklifts, and hydraulic systems strongly preferred. Familiarity with DOT compliance and maintenance recordkeeping. Proficiency with diagnostic software, tools, and repair manuals. Must provide and maintain a personal set of standard mechanic tools; specialty tools will be supplied by the company. Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and service documentation. Strong safety awareness, attention to detail, and ability to work independently. Reliable, organized, and self-motivated with strong time management and teamwork skills. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function for all positions in the organization.
