Job Title:
Diesel Mechanic (2nd Shift) Job Description This role focuses on performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a diverse fleet of tractors, trailers, refrigeration units, and related equipment. You will diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems, ensuring all vehicles operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The position requires strong electrical troubleshooting skills, the ability to use diagnostic systems and meters, and a commitment to high-quality workmanship in a busy diesel truck shop environment. Responsibilities Perform scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance on tractors, trailers, converter dollies, light-duty vehicles, refrigeration units, lift-gates, and other company-owned equipment within planned timeframes to maximize safety, reliability, and cost efficiency. Conduct FAI/CVI (First Article Inspection/Commercial Vehicle Inspection) and all required annual inspections on all fleet vehicles in accordance with federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements, including all state-mandated inspections and frequencies. Carry out high-quality preventive maintenance inspections following company methods on all fleet equipment, including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, refrigeration units, lift-gates, and light-duty vehicles. Perform quality maintenance and corrective repairs on tractors, trailers, converter dollies, lift-gates, light-duty vehicles, and other equipment to ensure maximum safety and reliability of the fleet. Perform preventive maintenance, diagnosis, and repair on refrigeration units (Reefer), ensuring proper operation and compliance with applicable standards. Review and address all Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) write-ups in a timely and efficient manner, resolving issues to keep equipment in safe operating condition. Diagnose causes of malfunctions and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications on engines, transmissions and clutches, driveline and differentials, steering and suspension systems, fuel and ignition systems, exhaust and regeneration systems, intake systems, electrical systems, brake systems, HVAC systems, and lift-gate hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems. Use electrical meters and diagnostic tools proficiently to troubleshoot and repair electrical issues on trucks and related equipment. Apply knowledge of DC low-voltage controls and DC electric motors to diagnose and repair electrical and control system problems. Complete electrical repairs and perform welding projects as needed to maintain and repair fleet equipment. Perform diagnostic testing on diesel engines and related systems to identify issues and determine appropriate repairs. Carry out preventive maintenance (PMs) on trucks and trailers, including brake inspections, transmission service, and other routine maintenance tasks. Ensure all work meets company standards for safety, quality, and documentation, including accurate completion of inspection and repair records. Collaborate with drivers and other team members to understand reported issues, provide clear communication on repair status, and deliver a high level of customer service. Follow shop safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in a busy diesel truck shop environment. Work assigned 2nd shift hours alongside 1-2 technicians, supporting overall shop productivity and fleet readiness. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Harrisburg, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40000.00
