Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic for a reputable construction contractor in Simpsonville, SC. This position is primarily shop-based but may require occasional travel to construction sites to service or repair heavy equipment in the field. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and heavy construction equipment, along with strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform routine preventative maintenance and repairs on diesel-powered construction equipment (excavators, loaders, bulldozers, haul trucks, etc.). Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and service manuals. Conduct inspections to ensure equipment is in safe, working condition and complies with company and regulatory standards. Troubleshoot breakdowns and make emergency repairs at construction sites when needed. Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records. Order and install parts as necessary. Communicate with operators and supervisors to identify issues and schedule downtime efficiently. Maintain a clean and organized shop environment and adhere to all safety procedures.
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED; vocational or technical training preferred. Minimum of 3 years' experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably in the construction or heavy equipment industry. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components. Valid driver's license; CDL and/or DOT medical card a plus. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics. Basic welding and fabrication skills a plus. Must be able to lift 50+ lbs. and work in outdoor conditions when needed. Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Work Environment:
Primary work in a well-equipped shop. Occasional travel to field sites in company service truck when on-site repairs are required.
