Our employees are the cornerstone of our business and key to ensuring we develop and deliver successful solutions that meet the needs of our railroad customers. Position Overview The Resident Technician is responsible for independently performing comprehensive maintenance, diagnostics, and service repairs at customer sites or in field environments on equipment serviced by Vancer, including Caterpillar machines. Duties include building strong customer relationships to promote trust and loyalty, as well as removing, installing, repairing, disassembling, assembling, and conducting failure analysis on all equipment systems such as engines, attachments, electrical systems, hydraulics, transmissions, power train, brakes, steering, and electronic and computer applications. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
Inspects, diagnoses, troubleshoots, services, and repairs customer machines in the field References service manuals, diagnostic software, and parts books to identify malfunctions and verify specifications Verifies warranty coverage for parts and manages return of cores and remanufactured components Performs failure analysis on all major systems including engines, electrical, hydraulics, transmissions, power train, brakes, steering, and electronic/computer applications Schedules and performs preventative maintenance, safety checks, and operational tests per contract guidelines by coordinating with customers Prepares accurate work orders, warranty documentation, SIMS reports, time charges, expenses, and purchase orders daily Orders and returns parts through appropriate service order processes Identifies and recommends additional services to minimize downtime, improve customer satisfaction, and build loyalty Generates additional service business by contacting potential customers within the region (Resident role only) Follows all Vancer and customer-specific safety policies, including contamination control and HAZMAT regulations About Vancer
