Job Overview:
Prevalent is seeking an experienced diesel mechanic with diesel and chassis repair expertise to join our new Houston terminal. This role is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy-duty trucks and chassis equipment to keep our fleet running safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on, in-the-field position critical to supporting terminal operations from day one. Duties /
Key Responsibilities:
Perform diagnostic inspections on diesel engines, chassis, and related truck systems to identify mechanical issues Complete preventive maintenance, repairs, and roadworthiness inspections on heavy trucks and trailers/chassis Diagnose and repair a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems on diesel-powered equipment Maneuver around, in, on, and under trucks to properly access and repair components Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and parts used Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE at all times Respond promptly to urgent repair needs, managing multiple tasks and priorities under time pressure Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Communicate clearly with terminal management and drivers regarding equipment status and repair timelines Qualifications /
Requirements:
Minimum 1 year of diesel mechanic experience on heavy trucks and diesel engines High school diploma or GED equivalent CDL preferred, but not required Must supply own hand tools Must have steel-toe boots and wear PPE as instructed Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
Physical & Working Conditions:
Ability to lift 50 lbs to waist height and 25 lbs to shoulder height Ability to maneuver around, in, on, and under trucks to inspect, diagnose, and repair equipment Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a non-climate-controlled environment, subject to varying weather conditions Regular exposure to chemicals, oils, greases, and other irritants common to a mechanic shop environment Some level of stress due to the urgency of certain repairs; must be able to handle multiple tasks smoothly and effectively Regular and predictable attendance is required
