Overview Join our dynamic team as a Senior Refuse Fleet Mechanic specializing in Class 8 diesel trucks, hydraulics, and electrical systems. In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a diverse fleet of heavy-duty refuse vehicles and equipment. Your expertise will keep our fleet operating efficiently, safely, and reliably, ensuring seamless waste collection services. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive diagnostics and repairs on Class 8 diesel refuse trucks, including engines, transmissions, suspensions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance to maximize vehicle uptime and safety standards. Fabricate and modify parts or components using welding, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques to meet operational needs. Utilize schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues accurately. Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, and other industrial machinery safely and efficiently during maintenance or repair tasks. Maintain detailed service records, work orders, and inspection logs to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Assist with vehicle assembly, equipment repair, tire service, alignment procedures, HVAC systems repair, shocks & struts replacement, and other specialized tasks as needed. Requirements Proven experience working as a heavy equipment mechanic with a focus on Class 8 diesel trucks; dealership experience is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems repair including transmissions, suspensions, brakes (air brake systems), hydraulics, HVAC systems, and automotive electrical systems. Skilled in using schematics for troubleshooting complex vehicle electrical and mechanical issues. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering techniques, and heavy lifting operations. Ability to read technical manuals and schematics accurately for diagnostics and repairs. Experience operating heavy machinery such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, or similar industrial equipment is desirable. Familiarity with farm machinery or industrial equipment maintenance is a plus. Excellent customer service skills to coordinate repairs efficiently with drivers or operational staff. Valid certifications in automotive diagnostics, heavy truck repair, diesel engine repair, tire service or related fields are advantageous. Strong mechanical knowledge combined with electrical experience to troubleshoot complex vehicle systems effectively.
