Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Performs skilled diagnostic, maintenance, and repair work on diesel-powered trucks, heavy equipment, and related equipment. Responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, completing repairs, and ensuring equipment is maintained in a safe, reliable, and efficient operating condition.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Inspects and diagnosis mechanical and/or electrical problems on district passenger cars, pick-ups, diesel equipment and other power-driven equipment. Repairs, overhauls, or replaces all equipment components, including but not limited to: engines, transmissions, clutches, brakes, differentials, steering mechanisms, hydraulic, electrical, computer, fuel and cooling systems and other parts and equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment, tools or machinery, servicing equipment with oil, grease and water. Checks and services batteries. Checks and lubricates transmissions and differentials. Maintains standard shop records, reflecting amount of time, type of repair, parts used and work orders completed. Performs hours of service on equipment at 250 hr, 500 hr and 1000 hr intervals. Performs oxyacetylene, arc welding as required. Maintains and repairs district stationary equipment including gates, well pumps, electrical and gas monitoring system as directed. Fabricates special equipment; layout, cut and fit material for welding. Has a complete understanding of the District's ethic Code and maintains a Professional Relationship with Vendors. Performs other duties or tasks as assigned by the Operations Foreman.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates equipment for testing and diagnostic. Change flat tires. Maintains shop, sweeps floor daily, cleans tools and makes certain shop is kept in an orderly fashion. Performs work in a safe manner and works within company policies wearing personal protective equipment where required per the safety manual. Performs other duties or tasks as assigned by the Landfill Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical troubleshooting experience. Ability to use hand tools as well as power tools. Possess strong electrical and mechanical skills. Operation and care of interanl combustion and diesel engines and components. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, and the general public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED required. Five years experience in the operation, repair, adjustment, overhaul and general maintenance of heavy and light equipment. Up to two years vocational training with an accredited trade school in diesel repair may be substituted for an equal amount of experience. Possession of valid driver's license issued by the state.
