Job Summary:
The purpose of this job is to successfully maintain the School Board's fleet of school buses and other vehicles to have a positive impact on the safe transportation of students and staff. Essential Duties Performs general vehicle maintenance required to keep the fleet in proper and safe working order. Completes needed repairs such as major overhauls and diagnostic evaluations. Records all work performed and parts used on the proper work order forms. Makes routine and emergency service calls throughout the county to return vehicles to operating condition. Takes proper care of and is accountable for all tools and equipment issued. Practices safe work habits while performing tasks in the shop and on the road. This includes keeping all work areas clean, neat and in an orderly working condition. Maintains general understanding of the bus routes, bus schedules and driver assignments to facilitate prompt service for those in need. Drives the bus safely, maintaining state and county guidelines as a substitute bus driver as needed. Participates in all meetings and training activities required by the Transportation Department. This may include training in all areas of automotive repair to keep pace with technological changes in the maintenance of the School Board fleet of vehicles. Performs related work as required. Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent and general automotive repair experience, including but not limited to diesel and gasoline engine repair. Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements and acceptable driving history, or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment. Must possess a valid Virginia State inspection license or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
